View Full Version : A Ricer's Dream.

A couple weekends back, I bought my (realistic) dream car, a 2000 Honda S2000 (award for most confusing name goes to...).

I bought the car in largely all stock condition, just a different stereo and K&N short ram intake (this thing SCREAMS in VTEC).

Also came with a couple extra sets of wheels, two of which I'll be selling. It also came with a sweet rust weight reduction mod which I'm going to deal with this spring.

Car as purchased (including the UGLY snow wheels/tires)

As can be seen in pictures, the car's major flaws are the rust (contained to one quarter panel thankfully) and a tear in the driver's seat. Stuff that isn't as noticeable is the wear on the center console, the driver's side sun visor is missing, many rock chips on the front bumper, paint fade on the side mirrors and some corrosion on the battery tie-down & radiator stays.

So what are my goals for this car?

First things first, I want to get the car sorted, I'm going to put on my stock AP1 (1st gen S2000) wheels & Dunlop Direzza ZII tires, fix the rust, replace the 'ugly' parts in the engine bay, purchase a sun visor, change fluids, get an alignment, etc.

Once that has been achieved, I want to live out my early 2000's dreams & achieve a car that would not look out of place cruising around Osaka in 2003. This is more than just an aesthetic ideal, I will be modifying the car to achieve a 'balance.' Very basic drivetrain modifications, simple (but high quality) suspension modifications, detail interior pieces & a loud exterior, achieved through minimal modification rather through a few parts with great presence.

I love the car man, its hard to beat a 2 seater convertible! I like the plans for it as well, what aesthetic mods do you want to do?

Well, I'll be honest I've already purchased a front lip for the car, but I'll post that up once it gets here in a few months (made to order in Japan...4 month lead time haha), I don't like posting before I have stuff in my hands. Other than that, I'm really not sure how I failed to include my existing part collection.

As for interior pieces, I've got an NSX-R shift boot and Arvou shift knob.

***I've also got that S2000 CR radio door, but I'm not 100% that I'll actually install it.

On the outside, thus far I've got some 17x8.5 +31 Advan RG, which I'm going to refinish to like new except substituting a pewter grey stripe for the dark blue to avoid clashing with the red paint.

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1678/23739348110_0ca9d1edde_b.jpg

I've also got a full Ti J's Racing 60RS exhaust.

I aim to do an autocross or two this year, I can't have sticky Direzza ZII and not play with the car at least a bit!

Got to drive lots of these when I was a tech for honda. Lots of fun! After I realized how much money they could be i ended up getting the little brother and got a miata. Sadly I had to sell it but I got to enjoy the top less 5 speed rwd fun for a little.

Thanks! I'd like to pick up a set of 17x9 +49 Weds TC105N to go alongside them, but no rush on that.

I actually had a Miata prior to this, sold it because the engine just didn't have the 'feel' I knew was always there in a proper Honda DOHC.

Ive actually seen a miata running in scca with a b18. I was watching it while they were doing practice runs and I was like that doesn't sound like a miata. later that day I went to look at it and bam b18c inside. ran strong, it beat out a lot of the cars times that were doing their practice runs.

Nice a guy who worked where I worked had a yellow s2k on enkei NT03's with what looked like iwas a J's exhaust. That thing was loud at idle/startup. Never got a chance to hear it driving cause we were on diff shifts.

If you plan on keeping the intake ans ever need a new filter, dc sports has some nice dry filters with metal construction. The metal is PC wrinkle black and the filter material is red. Also they have a velocity stack. I actually have both a 3" and 4.5" for when I switched to a bigger maf adapter. The 4.5 has like an additional inner funnel on top to aid in velocity I think. Could be my imagination but i think the all metal construction adds more sound compared to traditional filters.

I hope to replace the intake at some point with something more in keeping with my overall goal with the car to make something that would take me back in time to 2003 Osaka. For now though, the K&N will do & the filter is 'cleanable.'

Another couple days, another couple purchases.

I've become a bit of a stickler for maintenance, so I picked up some fluids for the car.

Also, I put the AP1 wheels on my car, tossed in my new sunvisor & swapped out the old rusted battery tie down for my new one.

I know what you mean, ever think about getting a hard top? These are one my favorite track cars, they haul ass with the right driver.

What are the differences between the U.S. and Euro Pole Position? Is it not FIA certified since a street version, sure looks like a race seat.

I like the hard top visually, but I LOVE driving top down, will be even better once I get the exhaust on. Plus, OEM hard tops are between $3500 and $4500, I can buy a nice BBK & ITB's for that, which I'd rather have haha.

I hope to track it next year, though at that point having $1300 in aero on the front bumper will be a bit stressful :orangesighw:

This isn't a standard euro-spec Pole Position. The Pole Position ABE has thicker headrest padding & larger harness holes at the hip point to allow for a standard 3 point belt receiver to fit through safely, as such the seat is TUV certified. As far as I know, it is the only fixed back aftermarket seat certified with them & therefore legal for street use in Germany. Is actually the OEM seat for the SLS AMG & SLS AMG Black series, as well as the C/CLK63 AMG Black.

Nice, more goodies. Not sure what those bushings are going on, but out of curiosity are mugen versions use firmer rubber. Cause I think thats the case with nismo like when I had their exhaust hangers on my s14 (last car). I imagine motorsport divisions related to manufactuers use harder rubber instead of poly for a comprimise between street and track? Seems like the rubber based parts where they could offer polly, they don't

The bushings are compliance bushings in the front lower control arms.

Yep, supposedly like 10% stiffer than OEM. I don't like the idea of poly/spherical bushings in a street car, so firmer rubber is perfect for me.

Gotcha, reminds me of the time I chose megan hard rubber/poly mounts for my 240 when the oem wore out. I was big into the idea of always upgrading if possible when replacing parts on that car. Kinda think my decision was overkill for nearly stock auto KA lol. The vibrations were more aggressive than the car. Hate to see what full poly would have been like.

Pretty tough to make 16x6.5 +55 & 16x7.5 +65 wheels concave haha

I'm also looking forward to new wheels, just the issue of paying for them. The tires alone will cost me around $900, which is more than I've ever spent on wheels & tires combined (previous high was $800 for BNIB Advan Kreuzer XII 15x7 +37 and brand new 195/50/15 Yokohama S.Drives including mounting/balancing).

But such are the costs of trying to do things once & do them right.

I actually bought both my coilovers & the Advans from Kami Speed. 100% recommend them. To say they got me a GREAT price on the Advans is understating how good a price they got me. I'm good friends with a guy at another shop & he was amazed at the price Kami got me.

I don't think those Weds would look great on my car to be honest. When I eventually get around to more wheels for the car, 17x9.5 +41 TE37 are my most likely choice.

And thanks again! Nothing to share since the tire pickup, hopefully a few pieces go on the car in the next month or so.

Thanks dudes!

Hoping to get one more change on the car completed before the end of summer, but it is basically done for a couple years. Priorities have shifted.

I gotcha, what else do you want to do with it? Not much of summer left really..

Fam it is June 21st haha. I'll have the car out until around Halloween, that's four more months.

Hoping to get my front lip & canards mounted/painted.

Would also like to finally put my shift boot & fancy floor mats in.

Recaro MIGHT go in.

Who knows. All, some or none of that may happen. I don't care too much at this point.

My summer ends half way through August.. At least that's when I have to head back to school lol. Painted lip/canards would be beautiful. Color matched to the red? Cause black/carbon fiber canards would really make the black wheels pop imo. Definitely a color matched red lip would fit the car perfect.

Good luck man. If things are though hang in there!

Lip will be red, canards will remain carbon.

And times aren't tough, (thankfully) just different priorities.

Thanks, I am as well. I am almost certainly going to rip the lip off pulling into my driveway, oh well.

Thanks! Sides are staying as-is. Every side for the car takes away from the OE lines & just makes the car look oddly bottom heavy unfortunately.

Man thats nice! Btw youtube channel called latommyla, the guy made it is in japan for 3wk stay and he's been visiting a few shops you might be interested in like spoon, feels, seeker and I think he has j's racing on his list. He also visited few up garages and scored seeker and impul shift knob and mugen pedals for a steal according to him.

Thanks dude! It is crazy how cheap some stuff we clamor for over here is almost given away over there.
