How do I tell if I have a Cali spec or a Fed spec?

the newer your galant is, the more the chances u have a cali spec. but yea the easiest way to check i think, is to look at your exhaust manifold. if it has that o2 sensor going into it, its probably a cali spec car. if you got them pre cat(s) then its probably a cali spec car.

hey allan, not sure if you can get a good look at this, if so, is it fed or cali

Just from glancing at it, I can't really tell; might be a Cali. I think that's a pre-cat right there, but I'm not certain. Unfortunately you don't have a picture of the hood information labels...it gives it away right there. Here's a picture of what a Cali spec 4 cyl Galant looks like under the hood:

And a V6 Cali spec:

Notice the little plug thingy on the front exhaust manifolds on both engines just beside the radiator cap. That's how you can tell if it's Cali spec. As for other ways on how you can tell...on the underside of the hood if it says it conforms to California emissions regulations...well my friend you have a Cali spec. If you have the V6, look at the front exhaust manifold and if there's a catalytic converter right between the engine and the fans then it's a Cali spec. Not too certain about the 4 cylinders...other than the Fed spec just had one big fan, and the Cali spec has 2 fans. Also, on the V6 the valve cover for Cali specs no longer have Mitsubishi written on it, as Dodge also uses the valve covers.

IMO you're wrong peter, that 4-cylinder picture is a fed spec. the cali has a big heat shield over the manifold. by the way thats my car at the bottom there.

Anthony, your car is definately a cali spec. I can see the precat on your exhaust manifold.

Faction, the heat shield is only held on with a few screws and can be removed pretty easily.

Sorry you're right it is a Fed spec...I was up really late last night I think I posted that stuff at 1 a.m. I remember the heat shield bit...cause TOC showed it to me at the TGC Texas meet.
