7G CAI (Cold Air Intake) installation tutorial By: Kevin R.

Warning: This installation is at your own risk. Me and/or members of GalantSpeed.com are not responsible for any problems that may occur.

Me and several other galant owners have found a way to fabricate a Cold Air Intake. There is no company out there that makes a CAI specifically for the 94-98 Galant. If you are starting from a stock setup, you will need to purchase a MAS adapter. You will need the following items for the CAI.

- MAS adapter - Short Ram intake (optional) - 92-2002 Short Ram Intake for a Civic/Integra - Intake Air Filter - 4"-3" PVC adapter - Flathead screwdriver - Clamp Rings - Nut Wrench

*Precautionary step*- Disconnect Battery and MAS plug.

Step 1- If you are starting from "Stock" you will need to remove everything that is connected before the MAS adapter. This consists of the factory air filter box, factory air filter piping, and factory air filter.

*Optional Step*- You can replace the stock rubber piping from the throttle body to the MAS unit with an aftermarket short ram intake. Weapon R, Arospeed, Ractive, Etc., make short ram intakes for 7G Galant.

Step 2- You will need to connect the MAS adapter to the unit. Make sure its tightly secure.

Step 3- Take the 4"-3" PVC adapter and connect the 4" side to the MAS adapter. Once its firmly secure, tighten the ring clamps.

Step 4- Take the Civic/Integra short ram intake and connect the intake air filter to the intake piping.

Step 5- You will have to move the battery to the left as far as you can in order to have the CAI extension to fit. Disconnect the battery and take it from the battery tray.

Step 6- Remove the factory battery tray.

Step 7- You will have to find an alternative place to have the battery tie downs placed. I drilled 2 holes for the tie-downs to be placed.

Step 8- Install the Civic/Integra intake to the 3" part of the PVC adapter. Be sure that the connector hose on the intake hosing is firmly secure. You will need to have it on so it will have a firm and secure fit.

Step 9- Tighten the clamp ring on the 3" end of the PVC adapter.

Step 10- At this point, you will need a find a place to secure the CAI. If you don't find a way to support the CAI (especially the extension part) you have a high risk of the intake possibly coming off while driving.

Step 11- Place the battery back and make sure its tied down firmly and connect battery and connect MAS plug.

Step 12- Tighten all the ring clamps.

Step 13- Start your motor and inspect all areas of the CAI. At this point you want to make one last attempt to tighten and secure the CAI.

Step 14- Take a test drive....FLOOR the car....and hear the CAI and feel the power.

Is it better to get a short ram intake or the air filter with the tube seperatly? The only pvc adapter I could find was 2 1/2 in. long, it this to small? Does the mas adapter have to be for my specific model galant? The only one I can find is on the shelves.

How much does this tutorial change when using the integra gsr cold air intake, instead of the short ram intake??
I'm new so any help would be great!

not much, this tutorial was written before wes figured out about the gsr intake. u need the same things though, i.e. mas adaptor, 3" filter, and the 2 rubber pieces from home depot. the gsr is the way to go as there is a way to mount the cold air extension to the battery tray, where as w/ this system you have to ghetto rig a few brackets to hold everything up...

Very nice. Will this one work the same as the other gsr CAI?

So, I got my CAI in the mail today. One problem... It's the two piece intake that they make for the integra gsr. Will this work? Either way, I'm getting them to give me the one I ordered. Guess it will be a little while longer for this mod. :x

? can u post pics? the integra gsr one is the only one that we know fits somewhat easily. usually its 3 pieces, 1 short tube, 1 longer tube w/ one bend, and another long one w/ 2 bends. u only use 1 short tube or either long ones.

me personally i use the longer one w/ only one bend as i did not buy the integra gsr kit, but its the same tubing.

but the best one to use is the longer one w/ 2 bends because theres a mount that works perfectly for mounting it on the battery tray...

This is the one that I ordered

It is a different kit. I just don't know if it might still work.

I didn't see the short ram piece that goes from the MAS to the TB, but you can use that intake. You'll still need the MAS adapter though.

So do you need a short ram piece to go from the tb to the mas???
Can I just keep the stock stuff there?
Please help... I put mine in last night and it's acting kind of goofy.

you will definitely notice the sound. u may or may not notice the performance gain, but its a good place to start regardless

i duno if this would jus be too much work
but couldnt you jus buy piping and rubber pieces from home depot?
and whats the difference between a cai and a forced air induction?

mjc1055
10-02-2003, 09:55 PM
cold air would be your intake, forced induction would be a turbo/supercharger... only a slight difference in cost and performance https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

10-02-2003, 09:58 PM
o... ok thanks
i saw a guy with home made 3" pipes that i gues was just a cai but he labeled it "forced air induction"

krazienluv10
10-02-2003, 09:59 PM
yea u can use pvc piping but its not called pvc its called something else... https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif its like 59 cents a foot i think...

pinoyesv6
10-02-2003, 10:02 PM
don't use the plastic pipe from home depot. the pcv and other plastic pipe at home depot won't hold up to the heat.

krazienluv10
10-02-2003, 10:09 PM
ive had mine for more then a year with 3 reducers on it... seems like the reducer is more likely to melt then that though... cant say about the hot air though...

pornstar
10-02-2003, 10:43 PM
wut r the reducers? the rubber adapters?
but other than that... 59 cents a foot sounds good
i think im mite try to do that, hopefully find 2 pieces i wont have to cut, and see how it works out
if it doesn't work, i'll have lost a couple bucks and i can still buy the integ intake
so if anyone knows the name of the pipe that would perform best under the heat lemme kno

krazienluv10
10-02-2003, 11:05 PM
youll see it its not that hard to miss... mine is colored black... but ya no matter what, ur gonna have to cut but its no biggy https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif and ya the reducers are the rubber thingy...

pornstar
10-07-2003, 07:18 PM
15$ intake and its awesome
can def feel the power and hear the sound
the first two times i put it on it was too low and the filter fell off but now everything is set
but im jus curious... how low should the intake be? should i be able to see the filter by looking under the car? should it stick out below all the other stuff?

10-14-2003, 04:33 PM
where can i buy the MAS adapter and what kind do i need?

seth98esT

eBay usually has em. and they make am in 3" and 4.5". 4.5" is more common, but 3" would be ideal

if i get an integra gsr CAI kit, all i would need to buy to use it on the galant is the MAS adaptor for the galant correct?

where can i get just a MAS adaptor? on ebay they come with a filter, but i dont need a filter cause the CAI for the teg comes with one.

also, is this way cheaper/better than building tha CAI like the original guide explains?

can i use the MAS from any eclipse models? cause then i could buy an eclipse CAI.....and just cut the piping so it fits

What would be the best (and somewhat cheap... not $200) brand for an integra gsr CAI to buy...

I want one that actually gives performance and not for show.... like the cheapo Weapon R's...

hi i removed the stock airbox and connected a k&n filter and mas adaptor to my 95 galant. i left half of the air box on so that the filter rests inside it, getting cooler air through that hole. is this a good idea?

also it may be me just getting used to it but i dont seem to hear the throaty sound i hear from it when i first installed it anymore.

so this leads me to wanting to convert it to short raim or cai. with cai i read you have to move your battery and shit, and i cant do that (my dad wouldnt let me im sure, hes anal about that stuff). can i convert it to short ram without moving anything?

and whats the difference between a cai and a forced air induction?

CAI = cold air intake, where as the filter is positioned in a manner so as to take in cooler air instead of warm air from the engine bay. With the integra intake the filter is down at the bottom of the car inbetween the tranny and radiator.

Forced Induction = turbo charger or supercharger, where as air is forced into the engine through a mechanical device.

I bought one from pepboys for $15.00 its made by spectre performance, its a 3". I just attached it in front of the MAS then put a filter on the end of that.

it said on the side of the package that it fits 7 and 8G's (and a few other mitsu cars) for the 7G you wouldnt need to use that black plate, on the 8G's you do.
