View Full Version : Using Higher Octane Fuel

The lovely state of NV has switched from 93 octane to 91 octane fuel. If I add an octane boost would this hurt the engine any?

If I only used it at races would that be better than using it on a weekly basis?

It probably won't hurt your engine any to use it regularly. However, try the 91 octane without the booster to see if it gives you and detonation problems. You may not have to add anything. On race days, get some of that race gas at the track. It's like 105 octane. Feels like rocket fuel!

Most of the gas stations I go to have 93 octane, but occaisionally I have to stop at one that only has 91 octane and I have to say that I honestly never felt much of a difference between the two. Although, I never got 91 octane twice in a row without getting 93 octane first.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but in your owners manual I believe that it says to use 91 octane or higher anyway. So you shouldn't need the octane boost or suffer from detonation problems. Defintely let us know if you notice a difference though.

I myself haven't tried the 91 octane, but that's only because the only rating around me is 93.

My Gas is never in the tank long enough to tell but I only use the 93 except right before payday I might have to use the 89

I've noticed since using the 91 Octane that the power has been lagging just a hair and I can feel it. I just wanted to use a higher octane like a 105 to get the extra power.

I'll try it out on race day.
Thanks for the help guys.

you can use octane booster as much as u want but i would only use it about once a month. All it really does is raise the octane to clean out the fuel system and you injectors.

Everyone is cutting corners and here in L.A. they changed from 93 to 92 to 91 a long time ago. It's impossible to find 92 octane around anymore. But really no one should need high octane unless you are getting detonation. Higher octane raises the temperature to prevent preignition. It doesn't make the combustion any greater. However, if the composition of the gas has changed so the new 91 octane gas formula ignites to give a less powerful combustion, then I can see a loss of power. High octane itself is not a reason.

octane booster once a month should be plenty... the stuff usually lasts a few tanks...

try the Regane by Prestone... it's a cleaner / booster... best stuff on the market...!
