Eclipse V6 vs Galant V6

I've noticed that the Galant is rated at 195hp and the Eclipse is rated at 205hp, even though the engines are identical. I believe the 10hp difference is a result of lower ignition timing. The Galant operates on 87oct and the Eclipse with 91oct and above. Mitsu prolly did this so the Eclispe would have a higher rating. I'm currently looking into a way to advance ignition timing on my cousin's V6. I'm inquiring if the SuperChips ICON would work with the 8G. We need to locate the wire that controls timing from the ECM to the ignition. If anyone knows which wire this is I could test the car today. If not, I should know something by tomorrow. Another way to control timing would be through an MSD ignition and the timing control. it can adjust timing 15 degrees between -15 degrees and 15 degrees. This would be beneficial for anyone using N2O because its adjustable on the fly.

this has been gone over before and it could be a less restrictive airflow look at the air in take set up on both and the exaust set up on both

I thought it was because of the trannies. Eclipse's come in the Manuals (Optional) and the Galants come in the Autos (only). Besides by the time it gets to teh wheel it's down to about 150 anyways

I don't think it's related to octane rating...I don't know about you, but my Galant owners manual says premium fuel recommended for best performance 91 octane or higher. I dunno what could allow for the extra 10 hp in an Eclipse. Same reason why we're baffled as to why Mitsubishi had advertised the Cali spec Eclipses as 195 hp their first year, and when the Fed specs were phased out the Cali specs were suddenly back to 200 hp, while the 4 bangers remained at 140 I think.

The tranny would have no effect on the engine output of power. The tranny will effect the output to the wheels though.

Well if it's just the power difference then i'd have ot say it's the cali vs. the Fed specs. which basically is the number of cats.

This situation paralles Infinity's G35 vs. G35 coupe. Both have identical engines, but are ~ 20 HP differance.

Well, we know for sure that the Eclipse has bigger exhaust piping. That's where some of the gain comes from.
