under the hood padding/noise dampener/heat shield

has anyone removed the padding from under the hood? if you have does it affect the sound or does the heat from the engine damage the paint at all if this is done?

I haven't done it, but I would be concerned about the heat level affecting the hood paint. I have headers and my engine bay gets hot as shit. Besides that, the hood looks like crap without the padding because of the support braces and such. Just my thoughts.

rican219 back in the day cut out some of the padding and put in some mirrors.

It makes the hood extremely hot to the touch if you take it off. Like you realized, it's there to insulate against heat.

i figured it wouldn't be the best idea to take it off. i was hoping you could take it off and get a bit better sound. oh well. <grin>
