(2002 Galant, June Manufacture Date)

Went to the store yesterday, went back to my car, turned the key and noticed a loud loud CONSTANT clicking sound, probably around 2 loud clicks a second.

Now when I turn my car over and when it starts up the clicking speeds up to about 3-4 clicks a second and escalates a bit more when I accelerate.

The sound seems to be coming from the dead center of the dashboard.

No lights or electrical sources seem to be effected.

If at all possible I would like to hear what people might think this could be before I take it in today.

Thanks for you time.

You have aftermarket gauges? Could be coming from the inverter.

Another bit of info to decipher the problem that I just came across...

The clicking STOPS when I put the Temperature Control of the AC on the SECOND setting...Then say if I switch it back to any other notch it takes about 5 or 6 seconds to start clicking again.

Maybe this will help somewhat?

Everything in/out of my car is stock, no mods.

Hmm, all the Air controls are down under sorta to the right a tad of the center console, (not the actual controls you touch, but the arm the thing you touch controls) It's concievable that possibly the defrost duct could ... could... be resonating something going on down there, put your head down there and see if you hear it, better yet pop off the radio /control - trim panel, that will open up the a hole that the little tray compartment goes in, the a/c and stuff is right there.
does the sound go away if turn off the air/fan completely?

The fan can be on full blast or off and it still makes the sound...

Thus far the ONLY thing that makes it stop is the SECOND notch on the Temp Controls...

if it only happens when you have the AC on, your compressor could be out of freon, but what the hell do I know?

The AC doesn't have to be on...THE ONLY thing that I've found that makes it stop clicking is when the TEMP CONTROL is set at the second notch...

Had very similar symptoms to yours on my '02 ES. Move the temp control, and after a short delay a loud clicking, grinding noise would emanate from the dash. Took it to the dealer, and they said there is a motor in the dash that has to do with the temp control, and it's gears are stripped. They replaced the motor under warranty on mine. Took about half a day at the dealer.

even heard the clicking with everything off, key out of ignition and me outside the car. I popped the hood and tried to locate the noise. could not find the prob but could hear hit close to the firewall. i don't know what it is but i do know my remote to doors works seldomly. I don't know if the problems are related.

i'm not liken it
