didn't manybrews say something about end clutches possibly being messed up but luckily you don't have to rebuild the transmission to repair it?

your end clutch is damaged and needs to be replaced / rebuilt.

any quality mitsu dealer can fix it reasonably cheaply.
anyone that says the trans needs to be overhauled doesnt know anything about these trannies, and you should avoid going to them.

i flushed my tranny when it happened - the fluid was dirty but there wasnt any metal or anything in the fluid - but it didnt fix the problem - i pulled my end clutch off last nite and inspected it and it looked ok but there could still be something wrong with it - i thought about buying the end clutch but if thats not whats wrong with it i dont want to - i guess it is time to take it to the shop - btw - im goin to do a tune up tonite - plugs, oil, fuel, the whole works - we'll see how the car runs after that

if you remove the main snap ring holding the clutches in the end clutch, you will no doubt find them all burnt to a crisp and warped.

if thats the case, replace the whole thing. dont bother trying to rebuild it.
