after hearing about jet black's problem with someone pouring sugar in his tank.

isn't anyone else thinking of locking gas cap? or what other solutions are there.

anyone know of a good place to get some type of lock?

good call, i want a way to lock it... the fact that it looks like the kind you have to release from inside wont fool everybody... if someone finds a lock i want one.

Dont you have an internal release lever down by the lever for the trunk release? You can actually just open ur gas flap without going inside the car , and locking cap isnt fitted underneath?? Every Mitsubishi ive ever driven or owned here in England has had an internal relese for the gas cap....even the poverty spec ones with wind up windows (remember them?...kids , ask your parents!)

US spec 8G's have no locking mechanism. you simply push the leading edge of the door in and the trailing edge pops open.

my actual gas cap has a lock, which you have to open with a key.

So you open the little gas door, and you see the knob. wen you try to turn it , it jus keeps turning, it works like the safety child locks on Advil, Tynenol, etc. Except you open mine with a key.

I got a locking cap from the auto parts store after someone stole my gas when I was in the market. It came with 2 sets of keys and only cost like $10.

I'm buying one for my husband. I know that for a fact. Even though not that many people hate him. You know what I think no one hates him. But I'm still getting it for him.

minor research today.

i checked murray's auto parts.

the mitsu galant 2000 has a different gas cap than the 2001. can you believe that?

anyway, the 2000 galant locking gas cap was only 8.69 with tax.

Okay so you tell them you want it standard on the 9th generation Galant so what about all the 8g guyz who dont have one standard? Mitsu should have thought about that a while ago when they were in pre-production phase. Hell even my 96 GEo had a locking gas cap, and that release lever in the car..

The one that I got is from this website.
http://www.stylinconcepts.com/parts.cfm/pa...1/CategoryID/31 ('http://www.stylinconcepts.com/parts.cfm/partfamilyid/31/CategoryID/31')
My uncle gave me this as a gift and it works really good. I keep a house key, car key, and $20 in it. The only thing that I can think of as a drawback is that the chrome part is bigger than the OEM and doesn't have the piece that goes thru the middle of the cap. So instead of twisting from the middle you have to twist like you're twisting a lid of a jar. Overall, it's a great product.

it sucks for a car of this calibur (<--sp?) not to have a lever inside the ride. my ex girl has a 92 ford tempo...her gas & trunk release is in the glove box....lol...remember those? its sucks that the US spec G's were made so cheap.

What the hell were the mitsu eng's thinking when they decided to include lumbar support, but no release for the gas tank.

Man, that's the ticket! Question though... I have 2001 Galant, and which of these three versions (the screw-in style, the 2 notch cam, or the 3 notch cam) is the correct one? I am not sure.

that's a good question.

i'm still searching for it.
my research so far is that galants that are '99- early 01 have a common style of cap. there's like 3 treads on the cap. someone with one should confirm. but this cap is readily available at parts stores.

i Have a 2001. but that cap doesn't fit. They say it's the late 2001, probably 2002, 2003 share the 1 tread cap. murrays and autozone do not have this cap. so they say.

so at the moment i'm searching for that 1 tread cap still.

someone stole your gas while you were in the market? jesus, where do you live, compton?

i can't believe mitsubishi didn't think of this locking gas door thing. my dad's E55 amg (i know the price difference, but here's an idea mitsu could've done) would lock the gas door unless the car was unlocked.

Our Galants cost $2000 - $2500 less than equivalent Accords and Camrys. Mitsu had to cut corners somewhere.

Hmmm.. I asked my uncle and he said when he went to that site there wasn't a choice. he just clicked what year, model and make of the car and that was it. I'll try to find a regular cam since my digital is with my inlaws on vacation. It's going to be awhile before I get those pics back but in the meantime I'll call the company and ask.

In my case, it's not that there is someone out to get me (at least not that I know of https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif ), but more of being a future victim of some random vandalizing spree. But I don't have to worry when I am at home at night because my car goes in the garage.

 ok hold up now, yall telling me that the 8gs do not have the gas lever inside the car on the left side of the drivers seat next to the trunk release. yall must be kidding. that just doesn't sound right. do yall even have a trunk release inside the car. my 7g has it. I thought the newer models where suppose to be an improvement from the older models. i dont even know if i could open the gas cover without pulling the lever. wow what else dont the 8gs have. and here i am wishing i had an 8g. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

yeah, how tacky is that. we have a classy looking car...we get to the gas station and we're pushing the gas door open. now we have a big thumb print on the side of the car. (((i use my shirt to push it open..no prints.)))

fa real...it sucks!!!
