I think my battery is dying and I am going to get a Yellow Top Optima battery(I got plans  ) but I don't know which model that fits my car 01 I4. Need some help.

You need to get the D34/78 Deep Cycle. Ive had it now for about 2 months and I love it.

I know optima makes a yellow and a red, but whats the difference between the 2?

Red top has more cranking power for starting or something like that, while yellow tops are deep cycle batteries that help run for long periods of time without the car being on and you dont have to worry about them discharging over long periods of time. I know red is good for sq and yellow is better for spl. Plus there is the optima blue top(marine battery) which is very similar if not the same as the yellow top, you should check out there site.

Later,

any of the 12v optima batteries will fit. uhm, if you can try to get the ones with the redesigned case. you can tell which one it is because it has the GM style terminals closer to the side ratehr than closer to the middle with the old style. the old style will just fit its just that the new style also relocates the sae terminals so you don't have to bend your connector to fit

so will the blue top fit?

or can you take a top off and paint it(or leave it on) :?:

lol, stupid ?

The blue top will fit anywhere the red top or yellow top will. they are all basically the same size. The only difference is the blue top is designed for marine use, aka boats. The blue top should have the normal terminals on it, plus a POS and NEG post terminals with wing nuts. These are useful for hooking up accessories that need to be connected directly to the battery. The blue tops are deep cycle, which means they can be run completely dead and still be recharged and used where running a normal battery completely dead can reduce it's output and causes it to sulfate. The deep cycles have less cranking amps, but should still be no problem for a G.

you can paint the battery but i'd just make sure that the paint you are using is safe. like it won't melt the plastic casing away or some other kind of negative effect. i think it would be safer if you just got a sheet of color vinyl and stick it on the battery like a sticker

good thread, I think I am going to get a red top.. I don't use my car at wintertime, and I have a 1600 watt-ish system in the G.. good purchase?

Well I can personally attest that the OPTIMA BLUE to WILL NOT completely run down and rechage.. mine sat for 1 year (while I was in Iraq) it jumped off.. but died.. took it to Autozone for a free recharge, and nada.. it had 4.8V left in it and would not recharge.

My yellow top has served me well. I drained it once(just so it wouldnt crank over, not sure on the voltage) by cranking it/starting it several times without the alternator hooked up and leaving the dome light on overnight. Hooked up a charger, set it to the 12v start and cranked right over. Have not had a problem since. $65 well spent.

i've had my optima red since '02 and haven't drained it. last year i felt like it was getting weak so i took it to autozone to get it reconditioned. that was free and the battery felt new again.

I've got a yellow top. I got it because I have a 1000W JL Audio Amp (which pushes 1 12" JLW7) hooked up to the battery, and with the stock battery my lights would flicker UNBELIEVABLY. Caps dont do shit. I replaced the battery with a yellow top, and lights dont dim anymore.

Local guy here gets them cheap. Do a search on www.dragva.com for optima yellow tops. Brand new, still in the factory plastic wrap https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

i've recharged my Yellow top twice without a problem...

If you have a system in your car with considerable wattage the yellow top is the best choice in my opinion.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD OPTIMAS BE RECONDITIONED?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Kalamidad)</div><div class='quotemain'>HOW OFTEN SHOULD OPTIMAS BE RECONDITIONED?</div>

its just like a normal battery.

reconditioning the battery pretty much means just charging it up. the only difference is when you reocndition the battery you drain it fully then recharge it.

so pretty much when your battery dies, you first test to see if its good, and if it is, you get it reconditioned.

i just did mine prematurely just to be on the safe side. i'd hate to be in a bad neighborhood in the middle of the night or something with a dead battery. better safe than sorry.

I have a red top, got it back in dec 05, I still have the dimming light problem though. 1000 watt kenwood amp on 2 super blue 12s the damn amp is just turned half way up. why the hell are the lights still dimming? 1 farad capacitors suck I had one before I guess I should get a bigger cap. What do you guys think :?:

sounds like you need to get a bigger altanator. if it still flickers the lights get a second battery and wire it up in the trunk. this will give you more power for the car and for the amps.

i went to the Optima site and did the "What battery fits my car" menu and its saying I need a RED75/35 but someone here got the 34/78... is there much difference in the size?

the 75/35 battery is a better fit since the sae terminals are closer to the edge. no need to worry about bending or modifying the positive battery connector

I just purchased my first Optima battery this morning for my G (Red). My question is does the original OEM battery cover fit over these batteries?

Becareful with those Optimas in colder climates. Last time i was told, they had gel packs which is more prone to freezing in cold temps than the liquids.

ok I'm a noob. I see that most of you guys have systems but none of your are like mine. my question I have a red top but its 36 month date is coming up this year. the battery is almost 3 years old. my question is I'm pushing 4000Watts on 2 12's, which battery is best for me. the red top that i have now don't make my lights blink but like someone said better to be safe than sorry. don't want to get stuck in a rough part of town. *noob alert*

^if you don't need the CCA like the yellow and red top have, I know i have a blue top, the marine battery, and I can run my system (1000 watts, at normal volume in the car) for about 9 ish hrs before its dead... To me a deep cycle would work for you? maybe Idk but I use it and I don't have any problems with it 4+ years

What amp are you useing for 4000watts.... and if your really running that much dont use a optima use a dang car audio battery....

I seriously doubt you are pushing 4000 watts. May i ask what amp?

suggest you buy separate battery for the sound set up
