my "Service Engine Soon" light keeps coming on and

My "Service Engine Soon" light keeps coming on and going off. I took my car to a mechanic friend of mine and he couldn't find anything wrong with it. What does this mean? Should I be worried?

I bought my car used so I'm not familiar with the vehicle history.

Could be any number of things. You can go to Autozone and have them pull the codes, since they're stored in memory, as long as the ECU doesn't lose power. Once you have the codes, I can look them up and give you a better idea of the problem. You might have just one code repeating itself or several different codes. Let us know and we'll do what we can to help you out.
