This is a relatively inexpensive modification if you don't want to weld on an aftermarket tip. It is a little known fact that the Stratus R/T Coupe (equipped with the 6G72 engine) shares the same exit diameter of the tailpipe for the V6 Galants - 2 inches. Its tip thus fits perfectly over our factory tailpipe. The Stratus's muffler though is further back than on our cars, and thus it has a shorter exit pipe. Here are some pictures of my car so equipped:

As you can see, I elected to go a little short on the exit, mainly because if I had left it far enough out where I'd like it, the inside pipe would look really ugly in my opinion (I tried it that way first). The overall effect though I'm sure you'll agree is that it's tasteful and doesn't really look out of place. If you're interested in doing this modification, the part number is MR497446 (Dodge, not Mitsubishi), it costs 39 dollars pre-tax. It does NOT come with the screw though, so you may have to pester the parts guy to find you a screw that will fit (I did not get the actual screw, but it's close enough). Just shove it on, and secure it with the screw. I'm sorry but I do not know if the 2.4L Galant can do this mod, as I don't know if the tailpipe is 2 inches.

Looks good Peter. Here's a hint, turn the screw to the side. If you show the car, they'll look under the car, plus that screw takes away from the looks of the tip.

Turn it to the side? Sorry I'm a bit slow...you mean rotate the tip so the screw becomes parallel with the ground?

from what i see, or it could be the camera angle, the tip is angled so if he were to turn the whole tip around, it would look funny.

looking good though.

Yes it's an angled tip. But I wasn't sure if this was what Chip meant, so I didn't just assume he thought it was a flat cut. I hate it when people assume things, so I don't like to assume https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif

you could buy two single tips and get them put on since most dual tipped tips have only one inlet and two outlets. yet the 7g muffler has two pipes.

but gettin 2 of the ones in the above pictures wont fit cuz the pipes on the 7gs i think are melted together. not melted, but there is no space between the 2 pipes.

Or you can do what the Maxima does and use a rectangular shaped tip.

I have been looking for a tip of that style, thanks for posting!
