All US vehicles have to be certified by The US Department Of Transportation (DOT). The overseas cars do not get this certification as they are not meant for a US market. DOT will not normally certify them because of the different safety specs on US cars versus world spec, etc. You can petition DOT to certify certain cars that are special imports, like Nissan Skylines, but I'm told that it is expensive and wouldn't be worth it unless you are importing quite a few to sell to balance the cost. Hence the $100,000+ price of a used Skyline on US soil.

you can't make it street legal i'd assume. You can't get a title or pass inspections.

Oh and if you're looking at importing a car from another country, I smell some MUN-NEE....hehe https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Not to mention the fact that there most likely will be a RHD to LHD conversion if imported from the U.K. or Japan!!!!!!

OMG. thats tight. Well all they have to do now is try and put the motor on their stock, put some extra catbacks and see if they pass smog. Then there u go. Or just put their cars VIN plate on the VR4~! or just sell all the parts and make twice the money they paid for it!! Thats sick....(IS IT A MEMBER?!?!?!)

Hmmmm... Pass smog? We don't have smog testing in Virginia, lol. Could be a chance to sneak by something kewl. I wonder who bought it.

If by "GTR" you are meaning a Skyline GTR, then they are pretty expensive to begin with. I'd say they are something akin to a Vette or Viper over here. Then you have to add in the cost of transport, special import taxes the government puts on oddball import cars, the governments fees for titling a foreign car that won't pass DOT, and then a nice mark up for the importer. There was write-up in Import Tuner a few months ago on how to get a R32, 33, or 34 Skyline. Oh, and ~TaranTula~, I doubt after going through all the time, effort and money that anyone would want to convert a JDM car to left hand drive. The right hand drive is one of the kewlest things about it! I know I'd love to have an R34 with RHD. I'd just have to rethink shifting with my left hand. Now, that would be weird.

yes that was a correct state ment the gtr is pretty much the japanese vette/ viper (as far as price comparison goes)...all prices at evoimports include taxes, left hand drive conversions, dot fpa approval , etc...everything to make it street legal for the us (unless otherwise stated)....now if u want them to leave some stuff out they will but they dont guarantee the states will accept it...then u may end up with a car u cant drive for sum stupid reason...but yea i would rather have a rhd anything...like e said that half the reason for importing https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif ...ohh and e...i only took me a few days to get use to shifting...itll come like u've been doin it the whole time...now as for the windshield wipers and blinker functions...thats a whole diff story hahahahaha (they are opposite btw)

Monopoly - 25,000$ to make a skyline street legal.

Motorex is not THAT (loosely used) expensive, if you go with an older r32 or an r33 it will cost you alot less than an r34. The r33 is still a great platform and will give you about 5% less power than the r34. I believe they still have a few R33 GT-R in the process of coming to the shop. The sticker price difference is like $30,000 between the two, go with an R33 and you will be very happy...but for those of you with unlimited funding...you can buy anything, so why worry.

I would call Motorex direct. I am currently using them in importing a vehicle that will be here early next year. They are very helpful. If you are intersted in importing a VR4, they will be able to help you.

Unlimited funding... I like that. Unfortunately all I have is unlimited dreaming, and if you are going to dream, dream big. I'll take a R34, loaded in white, please... https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif
