Im going to be getting a cai really soon, but i saw on the tutorials about the standard galant cai, and the 3g eclipse race division cai. What is the difference between these too. It wasnt very informative on the difference besides saying it looks better. And im not prepared to spend 52 more bucks on a part that looks better.

And also, for the standard and race division cai's, what is the intake diameter on both of them? Cause i think the intake tube on a stock 4 cyl is 3" correct me if im wrong. thanx..mike

the galant intake is a short ram setup. the race division is a full cold air intake. it relocates the filter to a much cooler location. if you are really worried about the price, get a dreamspeed or go to adventon.com and get an aem for 200

If I may add my .02 cents, I just installed the CP intake (for the Eclipse V6) the other day and I'm pretty damn happy. I got it off of ebay. Right now a seller has it for $75 and the seller I went through sells it for $89.95. Other than the stainless steel filter, which I may swap out for a K&N cone filter or that FAST electricsupercharger filter, I'll say it's a pretty damn good intake system. Much more power than my flip box mod (which I don't endorse anymore). These are even CARB exempt and comes with a sticker. It comes with an AEM softmount and the AEM bypass valve will fit this intake system ($45 add on). This CP intake has a 2.75" pipe.

But you get what you paid. Mine was missing 2 bolts for the MAS. THANKFULLY, 2 of the bolts that I removed from the stock airbox fit the MAS adapter's hole and the supplied nuts perfectly! MacGyver like a M.F.

Ignore the bungee cords. I was just trying to stay true to the Galant World by living Ghetto Fabulous.

I was all set to pay $250 for the Injen and then I saw this for $89. Coming from the flip box and knowing the power that simple mod did, I'm just under the impression that all these CAI will perform practically the same. + or - 1 HP ain't nothing but a $161 difference in the price, well, that could buy you a pair of lowering springs (or buy those Ebay coilovers for $130 and still have money left over).

Does anyone know the part number for the Injen RD CAI that fits the 8g? I just orderd from a speed shop what I thought was the cold air intake (pt num IS18459). BUt I checked the Injen website and the part numbers for the RD CAIs obviously start with RD yadayada. Anyway, the picture of the regular intake specifically made for the 8g Galant looks like the RD one...so is there any difference? Anyone have any info?

I would suggest the cold air because the ram is still in the engine compartment and the air it does take in through the open scoops would 'possibly' be warmer as opposed the the cooler air taken in from the CAI. Either way, you're going to get a noticeable boost in performance and sound I'm sure you'll enjoy.

glad to here your happy with it Rich...I'm thinking about getting 1 maybe..
I was gonna pick it up when dreamspeed originally started selling it, but that never happended, and then the price went up...
so is the gain really a noticeible difference compared to a short ram intake
I have a weapon r..

first of all there is no RD intake made my injen for the galant. its made for the 2k-2k2 eclipse.

as for with the evo hood. i'd still go with a cold air setup. uhm yea you're getting some cold iar when ur car is moving but what happens when u are stopped or driving really slow. you're not really getting some cool air. with the cold air, the filter is gonna be getting cooler air all the time since its farther from the engine bay. anyways, hot air rises...so yea with the filter higher it can get hotter air. if you wan't you can get the cold air setup and since the cold air setups can be changesd to short ram, you can do a comparison and see which one is better

The RD CAI for the 2000 eclipse (3g) will fit a 2000 galant 4cyl correct? Cause i saw on the tutorials that the RD made for the 3g eclipse will fit a 3g galant.
