I have 1999 Galant ES with 56,000 miles.
I will be taking the car in soon for a tune up, but I had a few questions.

What should I concentrate on replacing, and with what parts?
Should I also adjust the timing at the same time?
I do have an annoying tapping sound coming from the valves.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

A tapping sound does not sound good. Possibley a valve or lifter? The manual says to change the timing belt at 60K... then just basic stuff... oil/filter... tranni fluid... whatever else they throw in for the $500 the dealer charges.

I'm not 100% but I don't think there is anything to adjust on the car's timing... it's computer controlled... someone else may have a better answer though.

Good Luck with it https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

timings not adjustable.
neither is the idle.

plugs are due on a 4 cylinder every 15 k. v6s go to 60k, but in all honesty will probably last till 100k.

timing belt is due at 60 (this is IMPORTANT).
coolant is changed every 30k, and so is the trans fluid.

air filter every 15 k.

(these are mitsus recommendations, not mine).

Well sometimes you only want certain parts of the maintenance https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif Like when I got new tires...they wanted to charge me for rotating tires and I told them it wasn't necessary.

besides all those recommended things, get ur mechanic to chek out the car b4 he starts work. he might find something else that might need fixing, maybe something is gonna break or some other preventative maintenance. the last thing u want is to get all this work done and then have to pay to do it all over again cuz something else broke...preventative maintenance will save u money in the long run

It's really strange though...I went to the bodyshop to have them look at my car since my caster was off which on the Galant usually indicates something is bent because it's not adjustable, but after 3 days of checking he couldn't find anything wrong. Same with the brakes, they couldn't understand why my car's braking was inconsistent even though there's no problem. Some things are just meant to be I guess https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Mine has been making the tapping noise since 11k miles. According to the Mitsu tech I talked to, our hydralic lifters needs adjustments every 15k. This supposedly takes care of the tapping noise. I decided not to do it because it isn't an item that's recommended for any intervals in our owners maunal.

Every 30K for the tranny fluid. I believe you, but I have a 99ES V6 and my manual says to look at it every 30K I think and recommends never changing it unless something is wrong with the fluid, which sounds like a total load of s---t to me. Nothing lasts forever. I'm at 74k and am getting torque converter shudder in the 3-4 shift at low rpm in traffic when I'm not paying attention. Fortunately I have a buddy who runs an AAMCO and I'm going in tomorrow and he's going to hook it up to the computer and make sure nothing's wrong and then do a fluid change for me cheap with Diamond Star fluid. Everything he's looked at indicates that the DS fluid is important.
