2001 GTZ, bought in 2004 with 38k miles - $13.000 from stealership

I think this wasn't really a good price, but I had to go this way. I really wanted a GTZ, or at least a V6. I still have a hard time to believe, but it was really hard to find one. So I was pretty much screwed when I've seen this one https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

I might add I'd never go back to that dealership. Within one day, while "cleaning" the car somebody, somehow put hundreds of miles on it (wtf?)
Then they told me they pull out a dent, and buff the car. They didn't. They didn't even clean it...

03 ES I4 for $7000 before tax and everything, in Oct 2005. 40k miles on the odo.

But after tax and everything, stupid screwups (like the compressor and clutch, and window regulator), new springs and shocks, etc, total I spent approaching $10k.

Not to forget, the incredible amount of elbow grease required to keep it shiny in upstate NY in winter! (Washing the car by hand at freezing temperature, duh.) I'm so glad spring is here. Time for serious detailing. I am just waiting for the fresh polishing supplies to come in the mail.

Bought april 11 2005
paid 9900 for everything
24688 on the clock.
3 very minor scratches no other problems.

paid $12,000 after taxes and tags.

27k on the odo now... surprisingly, NADA book value says trade in is worth $9k and retails for $10k.

kelly blue book says my car is worth $7.5k trade in. $11k retail. which is probably closer to the truth

Not really...I just was at the right place at the right time for mine. The guy was going to trade it in, and I offered him cash for what the dealer was going to give him on trade. I was joking when I said it, but he thought I was serious. So I took him up on it.

No really, the resale value on this car is truely horrible. I got mine for $8k at one year old, luckily I got it at a great price through a dealer auction, but as you can see many people paids upwards of $15-20k+. Today they are worth around $6-8k.

My First 8G was a 99'ES with 12k miles, I bought it in August of 02' For $13k....invested about $5k worth of ICE, body kit and rims..car was totalled by a drunk driver on this day April 4th of 2004. The value of the car was less then I owed the bank, so I got nothing back, lucky I had gap insurance.

Then on April 10th of 2004, I bought the 2nd 8G, another 99'ES, 60k miles, I paid $5000 total out the door. I got over $15k invested into this one, prolly $12k of it in go fast parts.

Then now, in August of 2005, I got a a 97 DE with 120k for $1400, as a beater. It is the best beater around......

see, there are some of us that make no sense... you are probably at around $45K+ and i know VEGASMATT, CALI (on his second G now) and CENSEE have dropped big change as well since we've been at it for a while now. guys, it might seem like too much money but it just adds up real quick and before you know it, you've spent ridiculous cash on a car that others don't see as a tuner and may never understand. tuning these cars is not cheap and when we started, it was even worse since parts were either non-existent, custom or had to b imported at huge expense. you guys that are just starting to tune the USDM 8G have it much easier now, trust me.

btw, i apologize in advance since i know i foregot some people that are in the $45K+ range. i'm just too depressed to think about it.

I got mine (its an 02) back in 03-04 for 10,900 with 54,000 miles. It is a pearl white GTZ. I was looking at an Audi A4(I think late 90's) for 10,900 but my uncle (Parts and Service manager) didn't want me to buy it bc we said it would cost him too much to fix. So anyway he gave me the Galant for the same price, even tho it was on the lot for a tad higher.

Lets just say I got a very very good warrenty from him when I bought the car.

Damn I envy you guys. As you probably know we have very different pricing here in Europe.

I paid 100K SEK for my car just before Xmas 2003. With the currency rate we had then it would convert to $13.600 and this was with 54000 kilometer's on it (roughly 35k miles).

This was then for a 4yo car with the smallest engine option (2.0 I4).

I donno, perhaps some of you paid more than that, I haven't read the entire thread ... but then I've plunged another $8000 on the car in modifications like the wing, c/f hood etc.

I traded in my Celica powered Corolla for it. well, technically it was handed down to me by my aunt, and the next day she used my corolla to get a highlander hybrid since it had more value than the galant. from 12 second 1/4 to 16 second it was big difference. But I was glad that I was back in the mitsu family again. I hated that Corolla, with a passion. Its a fuckin death trap.

It was my aunt's car and she wanted to trade it in for a higlander hybrid SUV, well, my Corolla had a higher trade in value then the Galant. since the Corolla was a headache and my uncle was a dealer we swapped cars and I was back in the triple-diamond family.

My 2000 LS cost me $11000 a year and a half ago. Came with 60k miles, a port & polish, 20" Mondera chrome rims on Nitto NT555 tires, a pair of Audiovox monitors in the backseat, a portable DVD player, 420watt MPX amp and a pair of Kicker solobaric 12" subs in a ridiculously large custom enclosure (he made it for me at the last minute because I wanted to be able to use the trunk and his old box was filling it completely).

With the exception of a few gaskets that had never been changed, less then spectacular wiring on the media system, and a black primed right fender (where previous owner's friend landed his crotch rocket three days before I was to take possession), it was perfect. I think I got a pretty good deal considering the wheel/tire package alone was going for $2700 at the time.

I got my '00 ES used back in 2002 for $10,500, the loan I took was like 36 months $350 a month, paid it off in 18 months, it was like 17 monthly payments and 1 lump sum (bonus money). Its nice not to have a car payment. So I've been without on for like 3.5 years. I'd definitely say I've gotten my money's worth. Even though there are bunch of things that upset me about the Galant (mitsubishi's lack of attention to detail on simple things like the glove box stands out). Mechanically the car has performed better than I expected. Its now pushing 200k miles and still running like a champ, even just doing the basic maintenance stuff (oil, timing belt, spark plugs).

I bought my '01 Black GTZ March of '03 for $16500 with taxes/tag after my wife found it listed on a local dealership's website.
I had to decide between the used '01 Black GTZ and a new '03 Red GTZ.
The $10K price difference and front grill were what convinced me to buy the
used '01 GTZ (I really like the "waterfall" grill of the '99-'01 Galants.)

The StealthGTZ was a ex-lease car with 19200 miles on the "clock" when I
bought it.
It's now up to 49900 miles.
I've had no complaints other than the clearcoat/paint defect problem
that cost me $3K to fix after Mitsubishi refused to repaint the car.

After my accident in July where my car was totaled, I bought it back from the insurance for about $750. Car was estimated to be worth just under $7,000 So I ended up with around $6,200 which got the car fixed with some stock parts I had laying around and I managed to use the rest of the money on some JDM parts which will be going on in the spring.

When I got the car brand new in '99, after taxes and everything, I paid like $21,000 for it. I got it with 0.9% financing so I only paid like $300 in interest.

Throwing my two cents in here too.

My '01 Black GTZ bought in '03 for $11K cash. Think it had around 40K miles.

My only problems have been a cracked dash and bad paint, which I had fixed.

2002 es 27k miles when i picked it up in 03 for $11,000 from a hertz fleet sales shop.

had no problems outside of that heater not blowing heat problem (which only happened like 5x) and its been fine all this winter so its no big deal. i bought it because the price was right, it included the balance of factory warranty and well to be totally honest, i couldnt find a decent civic hatchback to replace the one that was totaled 2 weeks before i bought my galant. i had to get something so i settled for the galant... but it has really grown on me due to its good pickup, adequate room for 4 adults, good trunk space, great stopping power & handling... what i dont like is my fuel economy 18mpg!

I just picked up my 03 GTZ with 40,000 miles for $11,750. It's near mint condition. I may have paid too much but damn, try finding a GTZ with under 50,000 miles. I spent weeks looking for one and the only one I could find close to Seattle was in San Fran. I actually flew down and drove it home in the same weekend, lol. I have issues.

I would have tried to bargain but a guy calling from Seattle to a dealership near San Fran... they pretty much had me by the balls since I wouldn't have been calling if that wasn't the exact car i was looking for. I talked them down from $12,500 to a final price of $11,750, and they picked me up at the airport

I don't care regardless, it's what i wanted.

Let's wind back the clock to August 2007.

Bought the '98 Super VR-4 Legnum from auction in Japan for $3800 but add $3600 for transport to Melbourne Australia, $3000 for compliance (to pass Australian Design Regulations, or ADRs for short), $700 for slotted front rotors, $1500 for repairs to the body/respray and colour-code, $1800 for registration and stamp duty, etc etc etc.

All up, $16,000 for my car with 56,000km on the clock. Prices are quoted in Australian Dollars.
