Under the fenders there are a few screews - you must get them out first. Go under the bumper and check for other screws - there should be about 8-10 screws that are keeping bumper in place. I had it off before and I remember it wasn't hard to get it off.

Good luck!

Pretty cool.

Maybe a stupid question but what are these 2 round things behind the bumper?

edit: I guess that's the horn.

And how do I remove that strip of metal below the headlights?

And how do I remove that strip of metal below the headlights?Anyone?

And the bumper still isn't of the car, I managed to get the lowest part of the underspoiler of the car. Now I'm having difficulty with the underspoiler since the screws are behind the bumper and I can't get the bumper of.

dunno if you can get this without registerring, but this might help you out. it is a usa car:

http://www.galantvr4.org/ubb/ultimatebb.ph...ic;f=2;t=001654 ('http://www.galantvr4.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=001654')

i have removed mine more times than i care to admit. it is very easy, just heavy and cumbersome.

Thanks for the help.
But my front consists of 3 parts not 2.
From top to bottom:
- Piece of metal below the headlights
- Bumper
- Underspoiler

The link from the VR-4 forum showed a bumper and underspoiler as one.
With my g the bumper is seperate from the spoiler.

And FIN, can't you send me some helpfull PDF's?

the piece of metal below the headlites does not have to come off. when i first removed my bumper, i took it off, it is a real pain. to get it off, you have to remove the headlites. dunno about a lower spoiler, the jdm vr4 bumper comes off the same way the usa bumper does, and it is 1 piece.

And the piece of metal below the headlightes MUST come off. (Since it is damaged too  )

I had to rebuild the front of my Lancer [car I had before the Galant] and it had the same metal strip under the lamps. it was held on simply by a bolt either end [hidden by the headlamps and indicators] and one in the middle behind the grille. The Galant appears to be the same from what I can see on mine https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Alright, headlamps are off and the 'sub'-bumper (piece of metal behind the bumper) is also off. But the strip of metal below the headlights is still there, it has a total of 5 screws, but most of them are rusted so I have to saw them off or something.

jeucken
11-04-2003, 10:34 AM
Alright, that metal strip is finally off, now only the radiator and the piece of metal on the left side (has a dent in it). And then it's ready to go to the shop.

Me and my brother towed the car to the shop 2 days ago. (Looked funny, a Corrado VR6 towing a car https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif )

They can fix it for me, but I need a new front. I mean the front part of the chassis.
And they also told me they need the new parts (bumper, headlights, etc.) too or else they can't mount the new front correctly.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jeucken)</div><div class='quotemain'> Â*And they also told me they need the new parts (bumper, headlights, etc.) too or else they can't mount the new front correctly.</div>

You need exactly what i just bought!. I found the local importer by searching on Google for "Japan Front Cuts". Dont know if you use the same words in Holland, but what they do is import the entire front of the car (cutting off just past the dashboard). The main idea is for the engine upgrades, but sometimes the panels are in decent condition.

I remembered something. In your country - Holland . there is a company wich is specialized in JDM front cuts, JDM Engines, and JDM parts.
Take a look here: www.coltco.nl ('http://www.coltco.nl')

They can even get you a 4G63Turbo engine from Galant VR-4!

Hope this helps bro 8)

So what are the sizes of a 6g hood?

W1390 x L1224

Width measured directly underneath the water squirters.
Length measured along the side and right to the end of the lip.
If that dont make sense, then just trust me that its the most obvious measurement :-)

sorry to hijack this thread, but how come most 6g owners arent in america?
so far every1 that has posted in this thread is in another country.
we have:
australia
the netherlands
helsinki, finland (my fav. country other than the u.s btw)
ljubljana (whatever that is)
Norway and...
Wrexham.

so what gives?

marktheblake
11-19-2003, 08:42 PM
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(GalantGuy96)</div><div class='quotemain'>so what gives?</div>

good point. In Australia 8 & 9G has not (and will not) be released, 7G only imported up to 1995. 6G widely available from 1989.

The 7G's available here were a 2.0L V6 but only a basic model FWD, no GSR/VR4 type features or fitout. Thats probably why the product failed.

Thus any enthusiast looking at a Galant is most likely to consider 6G's.

Galant is not on the grey import 'allowed' list, hence the most common G in australia is the 6. The 15yo open slather import law, still only lets people bring in JDM Galants up to 1988 builds at this time.

Hence, lots of 6G's in australia, most of them GSR's, not many 7G's at all.

On the other hand, New Zealand has more 7-8G's than sheep, but most with a 1.6L engine i beleive.

In Conclusion, from my point of view, if the performance level 7G+ Galants were available here, then many of us would have one or at least be thinking about one, but as they are forbidden fruit, 6G remains our pleasure, in comparison to the yankees, once a 6G fan you have now upgraded and moved on - god bless ya's

jeucken
11-20-2003, 12:04 AM
You also have to mind the fact that cars are way cheaper in the US. So when you want to buy a Galant in the US you wind up with a 7g or 8g a whole lot easier than here in the Netherlands.

92mpi
11-22-2003, 03:40 AM
yup, it's a matter of economics and should i say reputation? here in manila, you would most probably see more 6G in very good condition than the 7G.

6G's here have an image of being sturdy and having better ride than the 7G, and it commands better resale value.

some even consider it being a "cult car", like the exotic EVOs https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

I almost have all the parts required for complete restoration of my car.
And that includes:
Smoke corners (Dark grey)
VR-4 bumper https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

It is in the shop right now, but all the parts need to be sprayed in my color. So that's going to take a while. But it is a step in the right direction. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Update:

Picked up the car from the shop today.
They put the hood and the plating around the left front wheel on. They also mounted a new front chassis piece to the car.

So my dad and I hooked the car up to my dads car and towed it home. But the hood lock wasn't connected yet....and it was a windy day......you fill in the blanks....

The front hood now has some dents in it, so I guess I should get another one and get it sprayed too. But luckily it isn't that bad, so there is no big hurry.

Next up is hooking up the other parts (head lights, grill, VR-4 bumper etc.).
Luckily the father of a friend of mine can paint the stuff for free so I only have to pay for the paint. I also threw in the grill so that one is dark gray now too. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

I'll keep y'all updated.

Little update:
Started working on the car today. Hooked up the horn and the hood lock. Connected some other things and tested the headlights.

I also found out that the garage did a worse job than I thought. Sure, they mounted the chassis to the car nicely. But one of my cornerlight cables is between the 2 chassis parts. :x
Now I have to cut it and solder the plug on it again.

Other screw up is that I'm missing a part. They put all the parts they didn't hook up in the trunk and on my rear seating. But they forgot the piece of metal that goes behind the VR-4 bumper. Without it, I can't connect te bumper.
Now I can hear you guys thinking: Get a new one.
But no, VR-4's are extremely scarce in Europe and in turn, so is the bumper.
So I'm going to the garage first thing on monday morning and I'm hoping they didn't threw it away yet.

But still, for once I'm enjoying this. It is very cool to see the car come together one part at a time....it gives me a whole new appreciation for the g.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Does anyone have any experience wiht hooking up a VR-4 bumper to a Galant?</div>

Yes , me, me! but sorry i am late.....

The only problem i had was it wouldnt fit as if the bumper was bent. But then i worked out the Horn was in the way, due to different shape.

Rather than move the horn, which would have been easy, but then the wires might not have reached I just bent the bracket its attached to by hand, only had to bend it about an inch or so. But obviously the horn may well be in different places in other countries.

After that it was pretty easy, except that the main bolt on points didnt quite seem to line up - out about a CM or so, so needed someone to help hold it into place until i got the bolts screwed in.
Anyway thats a typical thing with large components.

One noticeble thing is that the VR4 bumper doesnt have any bolt on points at the centre lower section whereas the standard one did. This might give the impression to someone that a piece is missing, but is nothing to worry about, its quite strong once all fitted.

MY 6G IS RUNNING AGAIN!!!!

I finished all the rebuilding today with some help of a friend and my dad.
Then took it out for a testdrive. It first ran a bit odd, but I think that's because the enigne hasn't run for about 4 months.

After the test drive I put my old wheels back on (sorry people) because the tires on those are way better than the ones on the other wheels. And because those tires were bad I had that accident.

In the evening I went for another test drive with my dad, because I wanted a second opinion so I don't overlook some things. In that trip it ran as it should. Only problem is that my headlights aren't aligned, one shines higher than the other. Does someone know how I can adjust this?

Now I just need some other things fixed but I don't have to rush that.

Also I would like to say that it looks great with that VR-4 bumper. I just need to get me some mesh. Because I don't have fog lights and the bumper does have fog light openings.

Finally I can go to work again by car. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

nice to hear that your car is running again.

there are small protruding bolts (for the size 8 wrench) at the back of the headlight assembly to adjust the lateral and vertical aim of the light.

</div>

For mesh I used the stuff from security window screens. got some cutoffs from the local installer for nothing. Dont know if you have this sort of thing in Europe though, but here its called SuperMesh amongst other names. (from a distant it looks like tinted window, but up close you can see its a thick fly screen)

So on the car it just looks like a solid black cavity on a white background , looks great. you can see photos in my sig URL
