Prothane 4 cyl front control arm rear bush
Well the kit for the 3g eclipse from prothane is great, but the seeing as I have a 4cl cyl the bushing on closest to the rear of the car on the front control arm did not fit. The bushing for that part in the lot is large and for a 6 cyl engine. I believe the 6 cyl bush is 62 mm in its midsection and the 4 cyl rubber bushing I took off the car was nominal of 50 mm but I had to take a little more off cause prothane does not compress like rubber. So I did about 49 or 48 mm.
Here are the two side by side http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/09/29/jeha8evu.jpg
The lower one is the one I sanded down notice how it's sanded to about halfway between the part numbers. The upper one you can still see the whole part number.
I was going to use a lathe but after talking with the shop guy at my school who had just done some work on a prothane mount told me a sander would be better cause the material does not take to a chuck well well and the angle of the cutter has to specially set up.
Here was my setup with a belt sander. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/09/29/enadynum.jpg
While putting this in make sure to check that your bracket fits the same way as it did with Th e rubber bush, otherwise you could break the threads on the control arm bolt or chassis hole thread as I did. A night of Cussing and screaming later I retapped the hole and was good to go.
Car does feel great with prothane, happy I stuck it out.
