Installing Cyber 1 skirts

I got the Cyber 2 kit from VIS in California and it came with the Cyber 1 skirts. I've shaved off the top lip so it fits under the doors but the groove at the back of the skirt is too deep to get the very back of the skirt under the wheel well so I can attach it.
I know some of you guys have the same side skirts and I was wondering if you had the same problem and if so, how to fix it. I thought about hammering the original metal under the back door in so the groove "fills the gap" but I'd rather not beat up my car if there's another way.
