it has been said millions of times before, but ill make it clear for you.
If your Galant was made btween 94-95 you can use 1g turbo ecu
If your Galant was made in 96-98 you can use 2g turbo ecu.
Both Eclipse ECUs use coil packs instead of distributor. If you swap to any Eclipse ECUs youll need to get rid of distributor.
The 1g ecu is not a closer swap. Regardless of whether you use a 1g or 2g ecu, you're gonna be in a world of rewiring with a 94-95. The 7Gb is the only remotely close swap, being that there's only 4 wires to redo when swapping to a 2g ecu.

actually a few more than 4 wires, and it depends on how stock you want the setup to be.
you'll have to add the wires for the power transistor ~ 6
wires for the coil pack 2 or 3
wires for the CAS = 4
if you go with a 2g ecu and a 1g CAS you'll need to do the Magnus 1g in a 2g
(which requires you to re arrange injector wires at the ecu, change the phase at the coil pack, and change the spark plug wire setup)
while trying to get my swap to run better i've been looking at the vacuum hoses.
The N/A 4g63 runs vacuum straight from the manifold to the FPR.
4g63T's use a fuel pressure selonoid between the manifold and FPR.
This all sounds like a lot...
but is actually pretty straight forward if you have the parts in front or you. I suggest to pull the wiring harness completely and add the additional wires needed. ( just not the way i did it with all the wires everywhere)
left out the wire for the knock sensor and the boost control solenoid

both of these have one wire going to the ecu and one to a 12v source ( which will be just about any solid red wire) inside the harness
I believe there will be a lot of boosted 7G's next year.

So let me ask this 1 think do you think? we would get close to the 160 HP.
highly doubt it. although you'd have the superior airflow characteristics of the DOHC motor, and the performance cam options, as well as afttermarket support(valve springs, retainers, intake manifolds, etc etc)
You would not have the superior fuel maps, or timing maps/electronic advance that is provided by the GS or 2g turbo ecu.
However I can garuntee you will see a wider powerband than before. it will make more power sooner, and over a wider range of RPMs than your SOHC setup does.
Kool im give my guy a call at the shop and tell him to do over the head with the hks cams Stage 1
its pretty easy, all you will need is a head gasket, some headstuds(because you can't reuse your stock ones), a head and an intake manifold, the DOHC timming belt, and lastly the distributor.
I bet under my wrenches.... i could do this swap in under 3 hours easy.
You would also have to plug these oil drain openings also on the 4G64 block.

hmmmm. I have always been curious....
if the 4g64 dohc block doesn't have those drain holes..... .and the dohc 4g64 head doesn't have those drain holes..... then why would the 4g64 dohc headgasket have them?
I.E. if the gasket doesn't have those holes.... then you wouldn't need to blockoff anything since the gasket already does it.
Hmmm. i wonder. Maye I'll go out to the garage and look at the head in my GS headswap, to see if the holes are in those locations.
^ Good ass point, never thought about it that way.
Some areas of the headgasket only slightly overlap those drain holes. I think it's more of a safety issue to ensure that the gasket seals perfectly.
My concern with this swap is the ECU management. For 94-95, there is the 95 Cali spec eprom ECU but for the 96-98, what ECU to use other that the stock one?
