I cant believe you entertained the idea of a Vtec engine. I also cant believe that anyone that supposedly knows cars would even suggest it. I would not take my car to those people EVER. Sounds like you have an aweful lot to learn. With that said, in your case the best thing is to slow down, accelerate at a normal rate (Dont Floor it!) and also as the guys said keep eyes on tire pressure, keep the car serviced. And as for the engine you posted...it fits but that site is a rip off! I have seen complete engines with fairly low mileage for more than half that price.
what sites or places can I go to for a better engine than what I have?
Some people keep mentioning Dohc engines
All I want is a balance between performance "speed" and fuel consumption.
wanna gain some MPG gut ur whole interior except for the dash steering wheel and driver seat and seat belt also gut out ur trunk even the spare tire then under the hood gut ur ac unit then u will love how better MPG u got
The best thing you can do w/o going to extreme measures is a good tune up for the car to bring it close to brand new oem condition.
Things you can do that won't break your pockets are the following:
-Fresh oil change
-Coolant flush
-New air filter (upgrade to K&N if you have the extra money)
-clean Throttle body and intake manifold
-A good fuel system cleaner (I recommend Techron bottle or BG fuel system cleaner)
-Good alignment
-Properly inflated tires
-spark plugs and wire set
-new distributor cap and rotor
-PCV valve
Another big thing that affects your MPG is your driving habits too. If you like to do jackrabbit accelerations from a stop or constantly speeding this will lower your MPG. If you use your A/C alot too...this will also decrease your MPG as it takes more effort for your motor to power the compressor.
i only said vtec because i thought it was funny that someone would even ask about honda engines for a mitsubishi and then turn around and ask about a turbo to save gas
Read this site, he gives you a couple mods that help increase mpg. Not sure how well they work, but on the forum there are guys claiming 50mpg.

I have a K&N air filter which i clean every oil change
I use fuel injector cleaner
I use Motor Flush
I changed my spark plugs and wires , distributor cap, rotor, pcv valve
I changed my Fuel Filte as well
Only problems with the car is the cataylic converter has a small hole the size of your pinky nail.
But my goal is to keep this car and rebuild it and i was asking from the Engine First because i dont want to rebuild the stock engine i want something that can save on gas and low rpms but also have good performance at higher RPMS
And the only ideas i have in mind is a DoHC Eclipse engine..
1996/ Galant ES / 16 valve 4 cyl 2.4 L engine.
What can i fit in there with those specs?
dude mpg is where and how you drive.. the 64 is a good motor.. dont go get a 4g63 just put the 63t cylinder head on it and keep your good lowend of the 64 and the 63 head allows better flow at high rpms and then turbo that later on and build it that way.. sont overlook the potential of the motor you have
