Well, I started round 2 of the wetsanding. When i got the car back the first time, It looked a lot better but it still looked like a Florida orange. I got sick of it so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
I don't let anyone else touch the car so it took a lot of me to drop it off at the detailers to get it wetsanded and buffed. Let's just say I got the car back and the finish looked like this.

Shiny, but still not smooth enough.
When I got the car back the passenger front fender and the trunk lid were flawless. But the doors and the rest of the car looked like that^^^
So I got to work.

I am now suspecting that the rest of the car was only buffed and not wetsanded at all, because even without buffing the sanding marks out this is what the paint looked like after about an hour of wetsanding with 1500 and 2000.

To say the least, it is 100x smoother and the reflections off of the paint is much more clear. I got both sides done and I have the roof and pillars to work on tomorrow before going to work. Hopefully getting it buffed Sunday. If i can't get the detailer who did it before to buff it for free. I am jut going to do it myself. I swear everytime someone else touches the car I get screwed. First the exhaust (another long story) and now this.
I'm a big believer that if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself (if you know how). Although I must say, that shot where the front half of the driver's side was being sanded, it looked like a matte blue and it looked sick! I love that color.
Finished round one of buffing the car. Still gotta go over it once more to get the spots I missed, and then I will try the hood. The fact that it's FG is kinda scary. lol
Shitty Android pic.

So much smoother. you can actually see reflection in the paint and there is virtually no peel on the doors.
I also installed new front lower control arms, so an alignment was necessary.

Zero'd out the toe up front and about -3 all around with the front closer to -2.5 than -3. Drives Okay, though it was raining so i couldnt really throw here around like I wanted. Zero'd out the toe because of the simple fact that a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE070's are $1000.
Nice work, looking much better. Thats the reason why when I take my car to get any work done, I always make sure my schedule is clear, so I can sit and watch them do what it is they are supposed to do. Learned that fro my Dad as a kid, and any time I didn't do it, there was an issue. So I make sure Im there.
same crap with my exhaust on ivory. never again. anywho great job on the paint man if you can see it in pictures i can only imagine in person
Got some time today to take some pics of her. Finished round 2 of buffing with the wool pad and compound. Still need to polish it with the foam before I put her away for the cold.
I'd say she came out pretty good.

Going to put the lip spoiler back on as soon as I get some extra cash. $50 for a painted M3 lip shipped? I think so.
Nice pictures. The lighting is perfect for showing off how awesome that color really is.
Thanks Matt! I have some pics of your beauty to edit yet. I'll post it when I get done.
No problem. I cant wait to see your picture coverage from MOD yesterday too.
Jigz! I am so proud of you and Baby G! ^_^ you've both grown
car is looking sick jigz, i especialy like the time of day the pics were taken. what size tires are your running?
Thanks B! They're 225/45/17. They run .5" wider than most 225/45's though.
If that brick was J's car:

Looks soooo much better!
i guess there isnt much room left for a 235 or 245 series, just curious cuz im looking to upgrade my wheel/tire combo 17x9 wheel also.
nah, a 245 will fit on a 9" fine. I was going to run a 245/40 but I found these RE070 for $450 (retails @ $1000) with 900 miles. I couldnt pass it up. The RS-3's were around 700 for a 245/40.
I think Martin has fit 255 on his 9" before IIRC. I'd ask him to be sure though.
as for the previous page...Like a boss!
fender lip clearence was more my question, i should of been more specific. it looks like one would really need some serious fender rolling and -camber to get a 235 or even a 245 width tire in there.
I run a 245/40/18 now which is a little tall with no issues. I ran a 255/40/17 before that. You only need like-1 out back and anywhere from 1.5-3 upfront in terms of camber. My fenders are all cut and the rear quarters have been welded and sealed back together. The flares will give you another 1/2 inch if space if you cut their lips as well. My 245 nt05s run wide too so it's probably closer to a 255 in all season size. I think i need to make a functional fitment thread so we.can discuss and not clutter this build thread
my bad,, back on topic
Got a couple of things to address this winter. Poly motor mounts, RSB, and 3". After that, nothing until the 4G64 blows up. Planning on leaving it alone next season and just tracking it.
Go to the dyno!!!! Take some vids we all want to see the power. Car looks great man
Thanks man.
I'll save dynoing it once I get a better set-up in there. It runs awesome right now aside from running a little rich from time to time, mostly in first gear if I get too happy with the pedal all the way to the right too quickly.
Yep, I want a 3" mostly for sound. Going to keep the 2.5" downpipe. I was also thinking maybe fabbing up a hard pipe set-up once I relocate the battery. I'm sure it'll help with the lag and response a ton!
sound and it will help reduce some of that back pressure. granted your effective diameter will still be 2.5" but it will help some. aww man and you should totally fab up a hard pipe. im thinking of learning mig and tig welding. such valuable skills with these projects.
I'd love to do that but thats where the money factor comes in. I can spend the money to dyno it and get numbers (im not really worried about) or spend the money to get the other odds and ends the car truly needs. I know for a fact I need to address the mounts and RSB. If I had the extra money I can strap it down and see what I make but for now, my priorities are getting the stuff the car NEEDS and in the end will keep letting me enjoy the car as a whole. you know?
I totally agree. the lower piping is pretty solid but i always remember my upper hitting my battery and being annoying. totally not playin that game this time around.
