Why would I need to make those modifications
With this weekend marking 5 years since completing the first 3.8 swap, I'll share a little update on what's coming soon.

Also, Pete's old car, as some now know, my brother owns.

He bought my old Evo Enkeis, and here's a little preview of what's to come.

Weight reduction and installing 5-speed swap parts.

Should be fun!
Indeed. I'm excited for both cars. Who better to set the next N/A Galant power record than my brother. It's a torch that I'll happily pass his way.
6G75 MIVEC swap!!! [emoji33] both are going to be monsters!
Here's the latest. Pistons and rods have shown up recently.

The intercooler is mounted.

And I had to remove the lower grille, as well as trim an inch or so across the opening in order to fit the intercooler. A sacrifice I will happily make.

With increased air consumption comes a greater demand for fuel.

Damn, looking good Matt!
Nearly a year after taking the car apart, I've decided to get back into it. I put the project on hold mid-summer after taking a new position at work and wanting to spend what little free time I had enjoying leisurely things.
Well, the time has come to resume. I've accepted a new job and changing careers, which puts me in a good position to build this thing in a way I could only dream of in the past. Time will tell.
But for now, these are enough to get me started on building the heads at least. Valve springs will be ordered soon and I'll have a valvetrain setup capable of whatever I can throw at it.
Meet the SPE Stage 2+ Cams. Only 2 sets exist, and the other identical set are in a 3G that runs door-to-door with an 800+ whp C6 Z06 from 40-150mph (yes, this was done on the race track). Needless to say, they provide breathing past 7000 RPM without any issues, and a nice, broad powerband.

Awesome bro, Im glad your resuming the build it has lots of potential. I know how it is when life has to come before the car but you gotta keep at it even if its little at a time. Looking forward to the unique build!
I outran a Z07 the other day.
.....it was on a trailer....lol!!!
Lol Redgalant2k1. Glad to see things rolling again.
slowest build ever
Haha, changing jobs a few times in the last year and spending more time with my daughter will do that. It's not too far out now though. I just need to buy a bigger turbo before putting it back together.
Happy to see some updates =)
Interesting hotside setup!
It's coming along. It should be road worthy in a few weeks. Facebook is probably your best bet to see anything when it's up and running.
I figured time to unveil the now road-worthy version of the car for this year. Changed the entire piping setup in order to run a full radiator thanks to Justin (silvertune).
For this year, so that I'm able to get the car on the road, my entire to-be built engine is a heap of parts in a box, and I went with a stock 6g74 with Eclipse GTS cams. Nevertheless, it's on the road and I'm having fun on 9psi until I get an ignition system in the next few weeks which will allow me to run 15psi.
Here are some pictures taken by various sources at a local car meet yesterday.

Man I know thats gotta be fun on boost, congrats
Holy shit!! This is awesome.
Congrats, I want a video or two.
It's getting there. I've had my fair share of video-worthy moments, but haven't had my GoPro on board. Things will hopefully change within the next few weeks as I have a couple of adjustments on the way to make the car more competitive for anything other than a 40 roll.
Might as well get up to speed with how things are going this year. New front wheels and tires to stick power to the ground. 17x9 +24 Cobra reps with 275/40/17 Mickey Thompson E/T Streets. MSD 6AL-2 ignition box with MSD Blaster SS coil, since I had maxed out the stock ignitions capabilities on a mere 8psi. AEM TruBoost EBC. Scramble boost setting for 9psi in 1st and 2nd gear. 16psi for 3rd through 5th gear.

This past weekend I got around to hitting the rollers at MAP for a breast cancer fundraiser, Boost for a Cure!
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...psc204qvps.jpg
First run was the result of wheel spin due to the operator attempting the pull in 3rd gear. The second run resulted in 488whp/461wtq. The third run was a solid repeat at 487whp/464wtq.

It feels good to finally approach the 500whp mark. I will say, I was very temped to turn the boost controller up a hair just to reach the 500whp milestone, but I'll enjoy it as-is for now and maybe go back in a few months on a little more boost and go beyond the magical 531whp mark that stands on top of the V6 Galant pyramid ;)
You know Im glad your still at it, not many are nowadays or just dont have the time to. How does the trans hold up, have you had to rebuild at all? I can imagine the reactions from people at the fund raiser lol.
Great stuff man , thanks for the update!
Pretty amazing power output Matt! Too bad it is still slower than mine!
Like I said on FB man, this is awesome!! I love seeing this high horsepower Galants. I cant wait to get back to mine and hopefully one day we can have a galant vs galant showdown!
Nice thats crazy power! too bad the pics arent working wanted to see the 275s on it.

Thanks guys!
Bryant, the transmission is untouched other than adding the Wavetrac LSD. The F5M51 is pretty tough and can take one hell of a beating.
Jigz, I can think of just the right event for that! Check out Powercruise. They host one in the U.S. and it's here in MN. Definitely the best weekend of the year.
I decided to throw a video of the dyno on youtube since photobucket is deemed worthless now. Enjoy!

Nice job Matt!
And yes, Photobucket is worthless now...
Thanks Dave!
This photobucket thing is a real bummer. R.I.P. every build thread on all forums.
I don't curse a lot, but I'm just going to call them photo_uck_t from now on.
Your Galant is progressing nicely, can't wait to see it get to the top like you said. You deserve it. I wish all this 6g7x action was around when I lived in MN, makes me want to go back for a visit :)
Mission accomplished. 552whp/562wtq. Stock-block 6G74.
I figured it was worthy of it's own thread. The embedded video is located there.
what are the ring gaps? Stock ECU?
Stock ring gaps. The short-block is untouched with around 100k on it.
The ECU is from a 2003 Eclipse V6 M/T flashed with the big map rom.
im about to start building a manifold for the 3g. Im hoping I can get some power out of it. Do you know if there are big maps for 02 eclipse M/T?
The big maps rom will work as long as the ecu has the newer processor. The square underhood fuse box is typically a good indicator of that.
The ROM itself is actually an 01 cali-spec ROM from what I've been told, but it only works on the updated ecu.
