Time to get the ball rolling once again for the first of 2 updates this week.

A couple of care packages arrived today via Silvertune as well as a load of car talk during and after dinner.

First up, a Spec Stage 4 clutch. 6-puck unsprung. Getting power to the transmission will be no issue now, relieving the stock clutch of it's duties. Though I must say, for a stock Exedy with over 80k of use, to hold 233whp/252wtq to the ground is quite surprising and satisfying. Nevertheless, here is the replacement.

Next package, a full set of Brembo calipers. I already have a pair in the front, but it's just that much easier to find a set of 4. With that note, I will be selling the front pair from this package to whoever is interested.

Lucky for me, Stop Tech stainless lines for the rear were included. I only need now to source a pair of front lines.

OOO! Looking good! Is the diff the weak point in the manual trans, requiring you to buy a strong LSD, or are you just trying to up performance, or is it a combo of both?

The stock differential has toothpicks for gears =P. Going boosted I see Matt! Can't wait to see it all tied up!

Absolutely both. The stock open diff is worthless from a performance standpoint. One wheel starts losing traction, and all available power goes to that wheel. That is the main reason people act like their 3.5 and 3.8 swaps make too much torque for the car to handle, and still struggle to enter the 13's in a quarter mile. Myself, I'll prefer traction vs a smoke-show anyday.

Durability should be answered as well. I want to be able to drive the car hard again from a dig, and that's something I've been afraid of with my replacement transmission since that has a stock open diff, just as the first one did when it exploded. The Wavetrac is superior in so many ways, and I expect it will not leave me with this result.

That was a chunk of the diff from my first manual trans, as well as the hole it created. It truly is a weak point, since 6G72's are more than capable of destroying the stock diff.

I'm staying N/A. There are many things yet to be accomplished before boost. Both from my car's standpoint, and a priorities in life standpoint.

No, but I may end up close to that when my N/A goal is achieved. My reason for the Stage 4 is the deal I got on it. I would have paid more for an OEM Exedy. The car will be capable of putting this clutch to good use yet.

Matt, your car really has me considering learning more about what the 75 swap requires and possibly jumping in there one day and doing it. I'm nowhere near that point, but I think someday I'l go ahead and do it. I would like more speed, but not at the expense of reliability, which to me trumps all, which is why I remain bone stock in the powertrain department and why a swap appeals to me more than forced induction. Once I have another car that I can mess with, maybe then I'll really start doing power mods, but not now.

What the fuck is this supposed to mean? Why would you limit yourself to 330wtq? Especially on a big torquey engine..? Spec clutches are rated at the crank and he very well might be flirting with 360 crank torque in the near future NATURALLY ASPIRATED. The stage 2 belongs on a bolted on 3 liter. Nothing wrong with scooping up a deal and planning ahead. Why put weak spots in your setup? The last thing in the world you want is your clutch to not hold the power you put a whole bunch of time into making. Don't ask me how I know.


This is the fastest NA 8g on the planet and it's about to get faster. It will be a glorious summer.

6g75 ummm. Interesting.

Greg, when the time comes, you will absolutely love it. Its much more reliable than boosting the 6g72, less expensive, and puts you in the same power range. Its hands down the cheapest and easiest way to get decent power on the entire platform.

Isaurio, I'm confused. I've had the swap completed for almost 3 years. Are you just realizing it now?

Thanks Pete! Hopefully you'll be able to see some of the ass kicking take place this year. Whether it be at the drag strip, Proving Grounds, or even a Dyno Day.

There is a story behind my every action and reaction... but alas, it would be impossible for you to know them. As for this case it just urks me that any person on this whole forum has the gall to pretend they have even a slightest clue what is going on over Matt. I will say no more.


Perhaps we will have to have another Club3g MN dyno day. I know at least 3 of us will have runs to make and that's if, oh, all 6 other builds fall through. And they won't... ;)
