I have an idea that i think could help everyone out.. i just dont want to destroy my headlihts trying to figure it out... thanks...
^^^ Now you say something...I just head a set of heads, both smashed but that chrome was still good. I trashed them last week, damn.
damn it... i have a really good idea too... i wanna try it before i say... so does anyone have trashed headlights with the chrome backing in them in shape... gonna make a prototype...
check local junkyards. if you want i can check one here in town. the one i went to had 2 galants and one had a really messed up headlight from an accident, but it was just the housing that got screwed up. I can call and see if they still have it and get a price for ya if you'd like.
no i mean the chrome pieces you took out of the headlights you are working on right now... did u remove the chrome reflector part where your one headlight used to be... i just want thouse two chrome pieces...
Alright, well today my 6000k HID conversion kit (from Qs a TGC vendor) came in the mail, and I now have found my motivation to start on the 2nd headlight. So I have never messed around with anything like a HID kit and even though the diagram for an H3 installation looked pretty easy compared to other bulbs, the way everything came in the package I didn't quite understand what I was to do. It wasn't until I took it all out, followed the wires and looked to see what made sense as far as what went where, that I actually was able to finally make sense of the installation instructions and diagram. I did end up having to completely unbolt the projector from the housing to get access to the 2nd wire, which actually had a different connector on it than the HID kit. So then I had to go down to the auto store and get a new connector and hook it up.
I just got everything hooked up and remounted the projector and decided to go back to my car and remount the new housing, check to make sure the HID worked and then to re-align the projector. Suprisingly everything worked perfectly the 1st try. Im quite proud of that! :) I then re-aligned it, put the bezel over the front and decided to take some pictures. Note, the halos are not hooked up because I'm still waiting for a replacement set from Ericblah, but those should be here in the next day or 2. Anyways, its looking awesome and I have decided that I must get this other headlight done ASAP because I want them on my damn car finally! Hope yall enjoy the pics.

Are You Done Yet!!! I Am Dieing In Antisapation!!! (damn I Cant Spell)
Got to work on this project again. My goal is by next weekend to have everything done and to have these bad boys on my car. I got the new halo put on the headlight that I was working on, drilled holes for the halo wires, ran them and re-soldered them. My soldering job isn't anything professional, but they held well and when I re-tested the lights on the battery everything was working great. Later tonight when it gets dark I may go mount up the head and get a picture with the halos going. We'll see.
After all of that fun stuff, I decided to go ahead and finish this one up and put the clear cover back on. I applied some clear silicone sealer and go the cover back in place. Everything is now complete with the 1st headlight. The only thing that is really left to do is to hook the halos up to the parking lights once everyone is complete and ready to go. I just need to buy and extension cord so I can use my solder gun out there. Im also waiting on installing my load equalizers for my switchback turn signals until then as well. Figure I'll just knock them all out at once. Well as always, heres a couple pics of what I'm talking about.
All the wiring complete

congrats on the project. Im sure you spent more time planning this in your head than actually doing it. good job man.
yeah the 1st head took me a while because of just that, but I'm getting started on the 2nd one tonight and it should take much less time to do. plus im just not rushing it, just doing it here and there. its a spare set of heads im using, so no need to get it done in a couple days.
yas there is a reason to hurry...we wanna see
lol patience is a virtue! ;) i'm building climactic desire this way!! haha
man everytime i see sombody do this it makes me want to do it. haha
i wonder what headlights would work for the jdm ones..
just read the whole thread and damn man! props on putting it out there and stepping up to the plate!
nice.
i am planing my projector projector now as we speak and thanks to airborneparainf82 I am gonna have an extra set of reflectors to try on... so if i skrew up my heads are still safe... I am over planing thus we can all have a easy way to do projectors on a budget... I am gonna take many pics and post up once i start so u guys can support me the way we have him...
come on man!!! I need an update!!!!!!!!!!
OK Mr. Impatient! haha j/k I was actually planning on updating my progress today anyways.
Well, I am roughly 40% done with the 2nd headlight. From some minor mistakes with the 1st headlight I decided to do things a little different. 1st off, since I am now aware of the cutoff that is associated with projectors, I made sure and put at LOT of time in to getting the projector lined perfectly. I also spent more time fine tuning the cutout on the galant housing so that the modified housing with the projector would line up much better than before. Once everything was good to go I used the 2 part epoxy to solidify the position of the project/reflector. Because of the better lineup on the housings, I was able to get a very good seal with the epoxy, covering almost 80% of the joining surfaces of the housings. this will make for a very strong foundation and bond.
I then decided to install the HID kid, since this required taking the projector off and rewiring the back a little. Once that was complete and I got the projector mounted back on and then took the housing out to my car to test for the level cutoff, which it was very good, and to align the projector. Now that I have the projector where I want it, tomorrow I will modify the bezels and get those epoxied based of the projector position now. Then tomorrow I will do my bondo work, and depending how that all goes, I just may end up finishing up tomorrow. If anything I will EASILY achieve my goal of being done by this weekend, so I'm stoked to being close to having these ready to go on my car.
And for those of you wanting to see cutoff pictures, I'll get that when everything is done. I don't have a good place on my house to get a picture like that so I'll take it somewhere when I'm done. For now, heres a little picture of the housings epoxied and the HID installed.

Question though, actually pertaining to the mounting of the HID ballasts....
Would some 3M double-sided tape be good enough for mounting or do that ballasts get hot enough to undo that?
i used 3m on mine never a issue...try to keep them mounted away from where alot water might hit them.
yea not regular double side tape but the bady panel tape works great
ok cool, I believe that is what I picked up actually. thanks you guys
Well, here ya go.... 2 completed headlights converted to dual halo projector/reflector headlights with HID 6000k H3's in the projectors!!!
After all this time, its FINALLY almost done.... I say almost because they are still not on my car and once I get them on my car, I still need to tap in to the parking lights for the halos, but thats nothing after all the work I've already done!
So here ya go, here's a picture of the 2 completed heads side by side, and once I get them put on my car I'll get some more pics for you guys! Hope you like em, and thanks to everyone (way to many to list) that have helped me out and offered suggestions along the way!!

i wouldnt tap the halos to the parking light i personally would wire them to a toggle switch
just out of curiosity, why not?
