If your compression is good, it shouldnt be the piston rings. If you are sitting at a stop light for a bit, then take off, do you get a puff of blue smoke? Usually a sign of bad valve seals.
Could be your headgasker has a leak, which may not affect compression if it isnt around the cylinders. When was the last time you checked your oil after draining?
Might as well start a new thread ;)
But my car didnt noticeably burn any oil. A quart of oil every 100 miles is a sign of something majorly wrong.
-
it drives great. yea ive checked all the for all the signs. o well. drive it till it dies. that was my moto 2 years ago. lol. still going strong. but im scared lately it feels i dont have the power it had before. im gona have to rush along and buy a core engine and head and have it on the way of rebuilding it.
i might just be parenoid.
most likely its the rings cus of all the high reving. oil dont have time to clear.
but the power loss was due to fouled plugs. cleaned them up n a wire brush and like new.
noticed when i compression cheched em.
i got 190 or so even across the board. what are 2.4 suppose to be running factory spec?
pm the answer, dont want to be thread jacking. and ive forgotten how to start a new post lol.

nice, good luck with everyhting.

Also, for all those non believers. When I took the timing cover off, I saw the BS belt nicely frayed and curled up against the BS tensioner. It had been snapped much longer then my tbelt. Safe to say that the BS belt essentially took out the tbelt.
BS delete ftw!

Mr Brown has a slew of parts coming my way.

Like what?? You cant just post that!!!!

moved thread to appropriate section

you know for how man miles where on that thing it looks decent. I want to see the cylinder taper though.
-
Not sure, will let you know once I set my rings.

Is that the engine stand from autozone?

did you finish it man? just threw mines together and having harness hell with a 98 ecu and harness. some plugs left out cant figure which goes to the fuse block aaah. and this new block gave me hell with that torque converter pilot bearing/ bushing. if you know any straight forward threads for complete harness swap or plug by plug info itd be great cus ive looked evry where.
-
I have all the parts to bulid the block, just trying to save money for vacation in August, so kind of stopped working on it.
You rebuild a SOHC 4g64 and are having problems with wiring? Everything should just plug right in. Start up a new thread with some more info if you still need help.
-
thats what i figured but some plugs are different, but somre plugs dont get used in the car whith the 98 gst harness, its a sohc with a 1g dohc turbo head, im stumped. thanks anyways
-
Your using a 98 GST harness? Do you have pictures of the plugs in question? Why not just use your stock harness? When I did a 4g63t swap with 2g ECU, I used the stock harness, only had to run a few wires, move a few on the ECU connectors, and wire up the standard resistor pack/coil pack/power transistor.
Check out mko's link for some diagrams:

If you have some specific questions, let me know.

if I had a obd2 galant, I'd totally go evo8 ecu. Totally.
-
HAHA I have obd 1.5 and im going with the evo8.... We have to wire it for a 1g ecu first and then from there wire it for the evo 8....
