WAHOOOOOOO i am happy for you guys. This is great news! John makes sure you write a tut up on it. I think this should be stickied? anyone agreed?
Agreed!!!
I think there is an easier way so this weekend i am going to investigate further to see if can use some of those existing wires in the engine that are no longer used. Im sure one of them is a switched 12v and ground and we should only have to run one wire if any.
Thanks guys all your hard work made it super easy for me!!!! im in the process of finding my trans now!
Ok so i was able to use a 12v and grnd from the original input output shaft sensor harnesss. I dont know which one yet but both of them have three pins and they are 12v 5v and grnd. You can use those for the power and ground and you will have to run the signal wire into the yellow black c 17. The harness i used has a black white / green / x and black wire. The black white is 12v and the solid black is grnd. The green is not used and is 5v.
just a little update, I noticed that at high rpm, around 5500 my speedo stops working, and I'm wondering if anybody else has experience the same thing...
Great good job. just on time for my 5 speed. x2 on the visual.
hmm maybe I tapped into some wire that shuts something off at a certain rpm OR my new speed sensor is crapping out already :( I'll look into it hopefully lol
Guys I need a favor. I went to pick one up at the local dealer and there are 2 different ones between 00 and 05. There are serial numbers on the very top of the speed sensor. Can someone with a working speedo get that part # for me so i can get the right one? thanks lol
Someone help me out!!!
Hey guys sorry i thought the site was down and havent posted.. Check where you tapped the speedo power it should be a switched 12v from the large power wire on the c17 harness. IT should not cut out at all..
Also i have used a speedo from an auto 01 galant, 03 manual eclipse and 02 eclipse and all have worked fine..
Wow, I can't believe there is a definite solution to this dilemma. I was gonna use a cell phone app to see how fast I am going cause I was fed up with this speedo issue. Thanks for the contribution.
I've installed the evo 8 ecu on my car, as well as the 5 speed swap. can I use the same wiring described on this thread to make the speedo work? or is it entirely different?
its the same^^
Thanks reiketsutsukigami, I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
Simple and elegant solution with no pulling of wires anywhere when swapping 4G64 auto transmission to 5 spd along with a 3G or EVO ECU:
As John stated, power and ground come off the stock output shaft sensor harness. Now wire your signal wire from the vehicle speed connector to the signal wire of the output sensor harness. You will use all three wires from the output shaft sensor harness. This is the little black 3 pin connector on your transmission that looks just like the plug for the cam sensor on an I4.
Now simply cut (disconnect) wire 80 on Connector 41 (Yellow / Black : 22 gauge or so [ie: THIN]) from the automatic I4 harness at the ECU side and splice it into pin 86 on connector C-115 (3G ECU or EVO ECU).
Tach works perfectly.
There is not an issue anymore for the 02-03 galant for a fully 5 speed swap with cel fix and speedo fix.
Dion and my self got the speedo working 100% with no issue and no low fuel problems.
Very simple very clean fix
What we did was we took the input speed sensor ground and relay power. The signal wire we reused it that is the white wire. Now two ways of doing this for the signal. Go to the pcm conector wire look for the white wire that goes to pin 103 on the pcm.
Option 1
Cut white wire on pin 103 and tap it to the green and yellow wire on pin 80.
2
Option 2 you could brige 103 and 80. W & G-Y wire. This option is what we did.
You are all set.
The hardest thing is to take out the blower motor. But is oem fix and is the right way.
Speedo working on dash and pcm. Log speed on evoscan and it shows the right speed. I will pull out some diagram for easy visual.

That would be awesome bro bc im lost.lol
