Dtp, do you want a slightly stretched tire look (a la Lexus/VIP scene)? Or do you prefer little to no stretch?
How low do you plan to take your Galant? Slammed, or about where it sits now?
I don't mind it, Dave, but not a whole lot. I'm more function, I need a car that's trackable with little modification (nothing more than usual, ex. spare tire, system, etc.)
I like low, but I need to be able to get down my gravel road. Another inch or so in the front, and one more on the rear and I'm good.
I'm guessing coils will be my best, but yet most costly investment. I still need sway bars, tie bars, and all new lower control arms and tie rods.

Taking all that in consideration, I would recommend as before, 225/45R17. Anything wider, especially on only a 8" wheel will actually look far too wide for an 8" wheel (235/40R17 for example).
What about using eibach springs dtp i believe those are like a 1.8 or 1.6 inch drop.
235 width tire? Too wide? If anything, it's the opposite. With an 8" wide wheel, the optimal width is usually 245 or 255.
I have 235/45 R17 tires with my 17x8 ROHs, and the sidewall is completely squared off by the rim. If anything, the tires I have (General Exclaim UHPs) they have rim guards, and they don't line up as flush as they should be.

245/255 = too wide for 8" wheel
Look at the Miata/Honda guys who track.
195 for 7"
205 for 8"
225 for 9"
Keep in mind the turning radius without rub. 225/45/17 is best also cheaper option with more selection. I would do 235/40 on 18's
Just a quick glance of my local Americas Tire website shows
225/45/17 Tires 105 different tires between $92-$289 ea.
235/45/17 Tires 60 different tires between $95-$315 ea.

yes, a 235 is too wide. A tire that is too wide is far worse for performance than a tire that is slightly skinny (a 225 on a 8-9" wheel). A 235 may be squared off well on a 8" wheel, depending on tire manufacturer, the optimum wheel size would be a 8.5". A 245 (9.65") and a 255 (10.04") are way wide on anything but a 8.5" to 9.5" wheel.
That doesn't even include how the wider sidewall will handle load distribution and excessive side load. Not to mention fender or suspension clearance issues, especially with a lower offset wheel on our cars. I know you know a good chunk about tires.
245 and 255 are too wide for 8 inch wheels except for autox where you want the largest amount of tire contacting the pavement. There are egos running 275/30/17s on their stock wheels for autox but a 255 on a 9.5 inch wheel for track etc...I've run almost all the tire sizes for 8 inch wide wheels and IMHO the best is a 225/45/17 wide runnitire like a dunlop star spec or a 235/40/17 narrow running tire like the nitro nt05.
I was running 215/45-17 on a 7" BBS RK rim with Dunlop SPsport tires...
Since I joined TGC I've been reading up on what you guys have been writing on tires and measurements and I tried out a mix on my new set of tires...
Since may I've been running Kumho Ecsta Sport LE 215/45 on my front and 225/45 on my back tires with the same rim mentioned previously.
The difference on my tires of changing the tires size is only 1.3% metric and the sway can be +-5%. What I think about having a 7" and 225's on aint really a big deal. The tire does look a little balloony but overall comfort I do like this setting and am very pleased with this setup.
I'll be running 225/45s on all four when I can get ahold of a set of four.
Although I'd like to give 245s a shot. I think it'd be hot. Plus, they'd be good for AX.
It's teh secks. I really wanna tint.
