Anybody have any experience with the Escort Passport 9500ix?
When I was commuting 200 miiles roundtrip for my MRI program I bought the Escort Passport 8500 in blue. It gave me plenty of notice for speed traps and saved my ass from hiding patrols countless times. IIRC the only differences are tghat its gps enabled to remember hotspots and has the red light and speed cam alerts. So I say pull trigger on 9500 if you have the cheddah, but if you wanna save betwee a BILL or two and you didnt care much for the extra features 8500 in blue FTW.
Escort Passports FTW. I have the 8500 and it works wonders. You can even fine tune it a bit to fit your needs. The 9500 is the best radar detector on the market, hands down, but the 8500 series can do the basics of what the 9500 can and save you $200. And as far as getting the 8500...go with red and save even more cash. The blue is more expensive and the only difference is led color. Check with state laws though. Many states outlaw radar dectors all together or allow them but don't allow them to be on. Know the law so you don't get a ticket when a cop tags your car with laser or turns on Ka band when he sees you coming and you don't have the prior warning to slow down.
yea i need to invest in one of those...got caught in my first speed trap last month...not a good experience
Okay. Did a lot of research, and found out the Escort 8500x50 is almost as good as the 9500ix. I really don't feel like spending 500$. So I got the 8500blue from eBay refurbished factory. Cost me 229$ I can buy 2 of them and still have money left over vs a 9500ix. I can deal with a few more false alarms.
So... Get the 8500x50 if you're on a budget. It's almost as good, just no GPS. Don't go running red lights anyways.
^^^ That what I said. BLue>Red because its easier on the eyes. Looks cool too.
Told YA.
V1 all day :D Though I started with XRT whisler -> Escort Passport 9500ix -> eventually V1
I've always been a V1 advocate, but recently I've read how it leaks emissions that Spectre radar detector detectors can easily pick up where the Escorts don't leak as much if at all. I have a cheap joint, I know it leaks, but it was $40 seven years ago, and has never let me get a ticket while in use.

x50 ftw ive had it for almost 3 years now payed for itself in the first 6 months lol
when it comes to laser you just can't be an idiot speeding around like you own the road...be vigilant and its easy to spot an officer using Laser (keyword spot once your radar goes off Laser your probably caught unless you lucky to have him shoot someone else first)
Couldn't have said it better myself. Mine paid for itself twice over on its first day, at only $40, when it let me know that trap was there, it kept me from getting a $100 ticket. These are not "speed all over the place with no regard" devices, they won't save you from really high speeds, all they do is give you a bit more reaction time, if you're doing 90, you can't slow down enough to get out of a ticket, especially if they use lidar on you.

Laser scrambler.
I was once part of a wolfpack that got hit with laser, not me but I wasn't speeding anyway. The point is the sound the X50 made was terrifying, I shit my pants think I got nailed. Then seen I was 75 mph on 70 so he wouldnt have bothered with me when he naild a red vette going way faster.
I wouldn't, but I'm from Baltimore, the land of inconsiderate drivers, if someone sees you doing 90, they'll cut you off "just 'cause I can." If people will stay out your way, go for it, but make sure you have a impenetrable force field generator to keep you safe lol!
Stay away from all scramblers and reflectors. In almost all states they are illegal. Radar dectectors are seen by many states as legal because the Supreme Court once had a case in which they decided that if Law Enforcement agencies want to use covert means to monitor tracking traffic speeds that as citizens we have the right to know they are doing such. However many states have found loopholes around the federal government to allow them to ban radar detectors or their use. Radar scamblers and reflectors are almost all illegals because it doesn't allow you to know they are "clocking" you speed, but rather they just deflect the radar signal or obsorb the signal altogether. Either way if a cop does hit you with Laser or Ka and your speed doesn't come up correct he can pull you over and give you a ticket for the visual estimate of your speed since they are trained to estimate, under different conditions, to +/- 5 mph. Then the cop with also be mad that you tried to trick with his equipment when he comes to your car, rather then just having a good laugh that you radar detector didn't work in time to avoid the ticket.
On a side note, I wish they came out with Police detectors and not radar detectors. Why is it that we can not use their radio communication signal or gps signal their laptops and patrol cars give off to in some way give an early warning that they are in the area? I would much rather know a cop is near by then worry if K band I'm picking up is a lurking town police cruiser or a damn LED construction sign traffic flow monitoring device.
I got an Escort 8500 X50 with Blue display. I love it, have had it a few years now, and works flawlessly. I definitely like the 9500 also, one day, one day LOL
Valentine one is the best on the market.!
X2^
Valentine 1 does not include the customer service or warranty that Escort does. Besides, buy an Escort and when another comes out later, you can turn your's in and get a discount on the newer. Have a few older models and they can each be added to the discount. Plus Escort has longer range and ability to modify to personal likings where the Valentine just says which direction the radar signal is coming from. Lame. If I see Ka on for a minute, I slow down, doesn't matter if its coming from left, right, front or back. And Valentine doesn't have any wireless or hidden options that Escort has. Lame x2. Escort for the mother f'n win!!!
Just direct wired my 8500X50 today. Got a fuse splitter and connected my RD.
Only thing I'm worried about is the fuse splitter says max 10A. While the lighter socket I split it from is 15A. Should this cause a problem if, 1. I don't use the lighter socket very often, and 2. the RD doesn't really take that much juice?
Thanks. No hits on KA band yet, just a few "Your Speed is... K's"
^^^You will be fine, I did a hardwire also and yest the RD uses very little 'juice'
Where did you mount yours? Mines by my RVM, still not very stealthy though.
That's where I had mine. But it was also when I had my 3G, the windshield has more of an angle so it was 'stealthy' enough. Also it was mounted as I high as I could put it, the top of the RD was literally rubbing on the headliner.
I dont think it will, my 3G didn't have it like the G does, it did have a small amount and it was 3 inches like the 8G, it was more like 1 inch. But I did have my entire windshield tinted 35% and it didn't affect me me.
pictures of tinted windshield.

One last question man. The fuse splitter had two fuse slots in it. I put the original 15A fuse in it, and then another 15A. Is this bad/unnecessary?
Should i just leave 1 15A fuse in it and call it good? Or leave both 15A in or put two 7.5A in or what? Thanks
I honestly don't know what you meant by fuse splitter. The cable I got looked like a phone cord with a red wire and black wire at the end. All I did was run/hide the wire from the headliner to behind the 12v socket and tapped directly to the blue and black wires with out a fuse. If you must use one, a single 7.5 will do.

I used one of those. I just don't know whether of not to leave both 15A fuses in or leave one in or something.
That is to remove for example the radio fuse and replace it with that. One fuse protects the circuit you tapped into and the other the device you are powering, so you will need both.
It's good to have radar detectors. Speeding tickets are such a pain and since a lot of people prefer to make use of a high-tech solution than remedy their lead feet, so they plunk down some cash on radar detectors. The devices can read if a police officer is lying in wait in a speed trap ahead. A radar detector might seem like a good buy, but there are a few things one should know.
