does the engine actually start?
battery/alternator
oil (viscosity breakdown and lockup)
fuel pump?
or alot of different things if the warning lights in the dash are burned out
if it starts but doesn't go
transmission
my geuss is that you negative terminal connected to your battery is loose.
the engine does not start.
battery reads at 12.4V and alternator was just recently replaced.
the oil thing...that has me wondering...care to explain?
fuel pump is good, and there is fuel in the tank.
also, all lights on my dash work, and got no warning lights.
and the negative on the battery is secured.
again, please explain the viscosity breakdown and lockup...????
it happens when you don't have enough oil in the block or your oil has been in there for wayyyyy too long, or you don't have alot of coolant which cause your engine temp to be higher than normal.
Anyhow what happens is that the oil initially thins out, then begins to rapidly thicken. But this usually takes a long time to happen, don't know if its like within 20-30 minutes of driving. The whole point is the lubricating ability of the oil ceases and the parts don't move. I'd think you'd see smoking from the engine or at least smell something before/during when this was happening. But if your engine has slowly been burning off oil and you don't change with any sort of regularly it could of happened.
If its not the oil did you check the spark plugs/coils etc...
chances are its probably something simple that happened not something huge like the oil thing...
I had the same problem with my '91 Galant. You might need to have the ECU inspected. Several parts of the main board were fried on mine, which caused my car to stall just like yours and messed with the RPM's. Good luck!
Anywhere besides the dealership I can go to get the ECU inspected?Quote:

Update:
Checked Timing, that is fine
Checked Valve timing, that is also fine
Checked Spark, getting it. (although it seemed to be a little weak, kind've yellowish)
Checked Fuel, getting it.
Disconnected the cat, there is back pressure. Tried two different ECUs, two MAS's.
Anybody have any suggestions, tips, questions, comments, help is appreciated.
thanks
when your engine died, did it sputter to a stop, or was it violent?
your motor cranks right? while it is cranking do you hear any unusual noise? or is it smooth as always.
There was no violent stop. It was more of a subtle stop, rolling stop. No check engine light, just the RPMs slowly dropping along with the MPH needles slowly going to zero.Quote:

yeah does sound like your timing belt same thing happened with my boy in his crx. All u have to do is unscwer 3 bolts to check it.............On a side note- HEAD FOR SALE! <----cheap
I can see the belt fine. Took the timing belt cover off and was able to turn the crank pulley over quite a bit and inspected the belt. It's still there. Any other suggestions?
there is an outside chance that your balance shaft belt snapped, and the belt cut the wires to your crank position sensor.
thats exactly what happened to me on my 4g64 DOHC. i was lucky, cause if it was a 4g63, i wouldn't have known until it slashed my timing belt. so for me, no damage done.
the only thing is, if you are getting spark, then thats not the case.
i bet your fuel pump went bad man. get a fuel pressure tester, and check it. if its taken this long, i would have taken it to the dealer and have them diagnose it for 70 bucks, then refuse the service and take care of it myself once they told me what it was.
fuel pump man
thats the only explanation.
Ok, I highly doubt it's the fuel: After attempting to start the car and pulling the plugs, they are soaked in fuel. So it can be said that the pump/injectors are delivering fuel and I hear it turn on. I'm going to try again tomorrow, and worse comes to worse, I'll try and find a pump. I'll keep this thread updated. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/styl...efault/sad.gif
On one of my old cars 94 Accord. It just died on me one day no warnings, nothing. It just died and rolled to a stop. After an extensive search I found out that the distributor was shot. So check all your ignition parameters.

Exactly what i was thinking. Just cuz usually thats the belt that goes first and takes everything else with it as it goes. The balance shaft belt usually cuts into the crank sensor then finds its way around into the main timing belt causing it to either snap or skip teeth and jump timing.
if your car will crank but not turn over that car only be timing or your getting no fuel.thats all it can be
there's an outside chance you have a defective (but not completely broken) coil. It is common in motorcycles especially to have this problem. What happens is that the coil works just fine when 'cold'. After the engine bay warms up and the coil pack warms up, it starts getting flaky and eventually non-operational coil until it cools off. Seeing as your car *has* cooled off, and you're getting a weak spark, this may be something to check.
