Help with new tinted windows!

Hello people; as the title states, I am having a little trouble finding a good place to replace my old window tints. The are very scratched and old!

Unfortunately, around where I live, there are not too many places that specialize in window tinting...and the ones I have found, they are quoting me $415-450 to replace them. I think that's an outrage of a price. I know that when I used to live in Florida the average price would be $125 (and that's computer cut). I think that the reason is that in South Florida you find a place in every corner, so they have to remain competitive. Here in Massachusetts is the opposite; people here don't really customize their cars, so the few places that exist for car customization charge an arm and a leg....because they have no competition!.

I am looking for a GOOD place which do excellent work in window tinting....and that are capable enough not to damage my rear window defroster when they take off the old film.

If anyone knows such place in the new England area ...or even in New york , please let me know. I would be willing to travel!

I am sure there are a few good ones in New York. I had mine done for $100 in utah hand cut and lifetime. The guy's hand cut is worlds better than the computer cuts I have seen.

Why don't you remove the tint yourself be alot cheaper than having it done yes it's a pain in the ass but it would cut the cost probably in half

U can buy a precut kit from eBay for about $30 and do it yourself. 4g63lover did it and it looks great. I bought a kit and I haven't installed it yet. Worst case u will be out $30 if it doesn't work for u.

I really prefer to have a specialist do the windows, rather than doing it myself. As far as removing the old film....I also rather have someone that knows what they are doing do that part....that rear defroster is the weak link.....I don't want to damage it! lol!

I don't mind paying for a good job.....I just think that $450 is ridiculous!

are you tints in the rear bad that i needs to be replaced? i had 20 all around but had to replace the side and left the rear at 20 and the sides now are a light tint.

Sorry man I had a 16 year old kid at traders village in Dallas Texas area do it silver tint for 125 had it going on 10 years now. So I would say 100 to tops 150 is what u should be getting but I dunno the area you might have to try other states. Like NY was suggested.

In Philly its $129 for all windows minus the windshield and $99 for the back windows.

$450 is ridiculous. I paid $120 last month for all windows minus windshield with free removal. $150 gets the same with lifetime warranty against fading. There seems to be a general consensus that ~$120-$150 is all you should pay for tints, maybe $180-$200 max since you need prior tints removed. Head south bro.

most places in Jersey charge between $200-$300 for all windows minus the windshield.

in queens u can get the whole car done for $125

Solar Shades in Poughkeepsie, NY is a good shop. Not too friendly to deal with, but the work is good. They charge $100-150. Have had 3 friends get their's done there with no complaints other than the guy who runs the shop can come off as rude and unpleasant sometimes. Call for an appointment. 845-462-0500

Again, I don't mind paying the right amount to have them done perfect.......specially the rear window defroster...it scares me that someone may mess it up!

I heard that there are some shops that use steam to peel the old film off, and that way the old film does not pull the defroster lines with it......any one have any thoughts on this?

Last time I had my tint done I paid 400 that was with the removal of my old tint and new tint put on plus the windshield, tint ran to the edge of glass no line, tint came out perfect worth every bit of 400 IMO.

Rear tint gets removed with a heat gun not hard to do just have to take your time...

Well, I finally replaced my old window tints. I found a place that specializes only on tints. The bad part is that it cost me $450 to replace it. The good news is that they did it so delicately they did not damage the rear window defroster by pealing the 9 year old film off.

!!!!! im sorry im just seeing this post now u coulda came down to boston we have a few spots i got both my galants tinted/re tinted when a trooper told me to take them off they were too dark about 200 for the whole car with warrenty plus i had a buddy of mine , who ive been using since, who tints for a living being contracted by shop to shop hes amazing again sorry i wish i knew i woulda helped u out easily

I did mine. Came out good. Messed up a couple spots on the rear window so now I have to watch videos on how to remove it without damaging the defroster lines. U definitely overpaid man. At least its done and over with.

i picked up a diy tint kit. i plan on giving it a shot..

Try to find a very dust free garage to do it. Its tedious and time consuming. Mine isn't perfect but it is good for now.
