The differance between Trottle body, and intakes, for the 2.4 litler

Ok so we all kno the first upgrade is air intake, exhaust, ect

but some of us want more power and when it comes to AIR we need a bigger Throttle Body and intakes mani
well for the 2.4 you only have a few options, we have the V6TB from a 6g72 and up the evoTB, Outlander intake mani

now some combo sound great but it wont work due to a design in the intake flanges of both intakes, and Trottle bodies

Ok so we know that the stockers work together, but what you might also kno is that the V6TB will also work on the 2.4 stocker intake mani,

look at the over hang, it wont seal properly, out lander mani and V6TB is a NO GO.

can you see the difference? the flanges should be opposite of each other, if you look at the flange closer you will see that it comes in closer to the TB in the center with less material.

yes i ran this intake with the V6TB, car ran good but not great, the TB gasket seals it up but if will still suck in air, this will not work with any force injection you will have constant boost leaks, isaurio had figured this part out

so your thinking well what TB can we use with the Outlander intake mani, well you have two options, get the outlander TB or get a EVO TB, i dont have the outlander TB on hand , so it will work just fine, (might have to look into tps rewire)

you can see in this pic that the openings are perfect and match up just fine,
not sure bout the outlander TB but with the outlander and evo TB the throttle cable is position in between the injectors and intake unlike the factory and the TPS will also have to be rewired(more on that later)

ok so we know we can use the V6Tb on the factory intake with no issue.
and as for the outlander intake, you can run the outlander TB or EVO TB
also i might add you will not be able to run most strut tower braces, only one that worked for me was the 3G strut brace

like a stated up top i ran the outlander intake and V6TB heres some pics of my last motor,
with this combo i was also 5speed and untuned, ran this set up for 50k before i scraped my old G and stripped it.

this should clear things up abit on what TBs can be used on what intake mani
any additional info can be added,

additional info - both TPS sensors from the v6 and i4 TB are the same the IAC are different,
im sure someone can post up what the size difference between each TB i seem to cant find my calipers

V6 tb - 60mm
I4 tb - 55mm

I was under the impression that the wiring harness was a straight plug in play between the g72 and the g64 though? You can confirm that?
And what about looking around with fitment of the g7(5?) On the outlander manifold?

yes its plug n play between the v6TB and I4TB

the the evo TB and outlander TB would require you to rewire the tps, the tps and throttle linkage are opposite of the factory
as for the 6g74 TB im not to sure about that, if it looks the same as the 72 then yes, but you will have to port the intake to make it flow better and thats the factory intake

it will fit the factory steel intake, you will have to port it abit to have it flow right

The 4g74 tb is a nice bolt on from what I've read on the stock intake manifolds on both the i4 and v6 g62, but it's the wiring that needs to be repinned. Not going to say which one needs it the iacv or tps because I don't wanna give out wrong info on topics I've read 4 months ago but I believe it was for the tps. Same wire locations on the harness but bottom and top wire needs to be swapped but the middle pin is fine.

I've read this thread twice. All I've read is what fits to what and what doesn't. And tried something but didn't work well. And what someone else said about it or what is supposed to measure up to. So in a nutshell, what works the best and why?

I dont kno much about the 74TB so im sure someone will chime in on that. But i ran the 72Tb and didnt have to repin anything. You have to repin the some wires if you use the 74TB on the v6 motor, is what your thinking

So then if you have to repin for the v6 to work the g74 then you have to do the same to the i4 seeing how you stated before that the g64 and g72 are plug in play. Kinda was on a self debate there between the 2 v6 throttle bodies (wiring isn't an issue for me and both tb will only cost 25$ each) but kinda leaning on the g72. I've been rolling around on this site for months before I actually joined and I must admit there's a lot of back tracking on this subject.

The iacs are different on the 72 and 74

Iacs are the same on the 72 and 64 stock tb pin out.

Look do more research on the 74 and 72 TB you will see a few threads on it.

Im not 100% sure about this myself and the info that i posted is what worked for me and the research ive done

Cool beans. I'm just waiting on a fresher pick at the yard so I can start playing around as well. Each yard around Orlando seems to specialise in a different make. One down the road is where Hondas go when they die and the one I frequent every weekend is where Mitsubishi goes when they die lol. I've seen the g72 tb all over at the yard but most look toasty so I haven't bothered to play around with them. Is that large bracket/housing around the springs really needed?

Running the 6g72 tb requires no wiring modifications what so ever. It's completely PNP, the plungers on the IAC's look different but they are run identically.

The 74 tb requires wiring in the 74 IAC pigtail. The pinouts are identical, just the plug is physically bigger.

The Evo tb requires reversing the pinout of the TPS, but is otherwise plug and play. Since the TPS is on the other side of the butterfly but still opens the same direction the sensor is a mirror image of your stock one.


The BEST combination here, and really the only one that works, is the outlander manifold and evo throttle body. If you really want to go ham with your breathing get an Evo throttle body and send it out to get bored over to 65mm and port the outlander manifold to match. That is the ONLY setup here that is feasible and worth jack squat. As his picture protrays, the lip you get with the 60mm tb eliminates any possible gain from that swap. Beyond that since the manifold is SHEET METAL you CAN NOT port the flange out so it matches. It will literally fall off once you cut through the sheet metal. Everything else results in the vacuum leak which completely defeats the purpose of the swap because YOU WILL MAKE LESS POWER WITH A VAC LEAK because it will run like absolute shit.

Outlander IM, Evo TB, get cracking.


And if anyone wants I have a freshly rebuilt Evo TB I'm trying to sell for $65 shipped. Sand blasted, taper bored and rebuilt.

Well I found out about the 6g74 TB not sealing with the Outlander IM while testing for boost leaks.

As Silvertune said best combination would be Outlander IM and Evo 8 TB w/ evo 8 tb gasket, TPS connector needs to be extended and the pins need to be moved, here's the tutorial for that: http://www.club3g.com/forum/3g-eclip...-pin-outs.html
