I'm not sure how many of you have heard about this. I sure as heck didn't know about it until today when I got a notice in the mail from the Rosenthal lawfirm. Might be something to look into. Unfortunately I am no longer eligible for participation as my 1999 was trashed in 2001.

Yea there used to be a link on http://www.lemonlaw.com about this. They had like 2000 people that were sueing for faulty brakes and rotors. I do not know what ever happened but my dealer will not do anything for me. I have replaced my brakes 4 times with my own money! 3 times with stock ones and the forth and final time with Brembo rotors.
Ok the letter basically has 3 options:
1) You've had your brakes serviced for the "problem" and want reimbursement
2) I forgot
3) You have not yet had them serviced but will
The problem at hand is, as they describe it, "shaking, pulsating, and juddering of the brakes."

We replaced brake pads, had rotors turned twice, and then replaced with new ones, front bushings replaced (to stop the vibrations in the steering), and several alignments all before the warranty expired (luckily). After the warranty expired we had the brake pads and rotors replaced yet again (with different non-Mitsubishi parts) and finally solved the brake problem (so we thought). It is 03' now and we have 130k miles on the vehicle, the windshield wipers, cruise control, and the air conditioner all have began to work part time! Oh, and we are starting to get the brake problem back again (much less severe than before).The car has had it share of problems, but overall been a fairly decent vehicle. The motor will surely outlast all the other components on the vehicle."

yea i got a letter regarding this in the mail today... mines a '99 and i bought it a year ago, but my father leased it since '99, and i bought it off the lease a year ago,... neways, he changed the brakes right b4 i bought it from him and i just changed them myself about a month ago, but i still don't understand what the whole claim form is about... but if its possible of a big fat check or something with my name on it, then i'll suddenly understand it... :wink: lol
yea i just got it today to but im not the first owner of the car so im in eligible for it but i believe that my brakes have been fucked since i got my car. tell me if this is caused by the brakes: vibrating steering column above 65 but below 75 mph, grinding when i brake (obvious), abs kicking in on semi hard stops on dry pavement, and would they wear down my ties quick becuz ive gone through 4 tires in a year. anyway it dont matter becuz im not the first owner so im scrwed.
i admit the same problems but i learned to ignore them because i don't have the money for new rotors right now

I'm in jersey too, where's my notice? anyways if i do get into this I had my brakes done 3 times 1st was by a shop, 2nd, 3rd was a friend's dad who did it at his buddy's shop. So now am i going to need receipts which i don't have, since the 2nd and 3rd was done as a favor. The 1st time was just a fucked up job they did and a friend corrected the install.
*i know its probably a dumb question cuz obviously u need proof in any case, but I mean since there's like 2000 other galant owners that have the problem and are also in on this, will i still need to show my own statements even if thats proof that others show its a major problem?

There definitely is no recall on this. The dealer will "try" to tell you this is regular "wear and tear" and make you pay for this. I did that twice and then decited to go elsewere for braking parts.

I just testdrove a beautiful whitw 1999 galant es with 41k and for $8000,
but i was concerned about how deep you have to step on the brakes for it to
start work. when you step on it, it doesnt do anything until 1/3 or 1/2 way
through. Is this part of the recall that i should avoid? or something
fixable?
Should i look at the 2000??? given the 99 was the first year of its 8th gen style there might be some imperfections to it.
the dealer told me theyd fix it before my next test drive and i know the problem can go away, but it might come back after a few k miles.

What you felt was brake pads that will need to be replaced soon. If you like the car have them put on new pads before you do the deal.
Damnit that is only for 1st owners. I got my galant in June and am about to ahve the brakes replaced(started with pulsating and now this weekend went to grinding--no indication prior to this about the brakes needing replacement**normally you get a slight squeky noise near the end of the brake pads life) now I have to replace the rotors and pads.
