every now and then i get asked how to take a pilot bearing out of a crank that's rust-welded when doing a 5 speed swap, and i just so happened to be removing one today from a '63 crank so i made a video:

do you have to take out the bearing if i got an engine thats use to be auto
I'm pretty sure you have to remove it if it was auto. I'm glad that I never had to deal with one getting stuck. I've been able to pull them out using a vice grip by spinning them as I pull.Quote:

Same with mine but I thought it was kinda nice bc it felt stong and holding right into place but I could be wrong and thats not how its sup to feel.lol If someone can confirm if we are going 5 speed does the pilot bearing in the crankshaft "HAVE" to be taken out?Quote:

I think you should have a meet just to take out the pivot joint cause I think a lot of people forgot
if you using a 2G flywheel you must remove the bearing, if using a 3G flywheel you dont have to remove it
Yeah I was about to say something about that, I checked out the flywheel against the Crank and its fine and not in the way at all so I guess its alot diff with the 2g flywheel than the 3g.Quote:
