Making the 8G go faster - Forced Induction Info
NOTE: This first post of this thread will be constantly updated as much as possible.
I will not get into which application is better, the purpose of this thread is to provide information only. Please start another thread if you wish to discuss which way (turbo/supercharger/nitrous) is better/worse.

There have been a lot of questions lately about how to make the Galant run faster. As of now, there are not many "bolt-ons" that exist for the 4G64 (I4) and 6G72 (V6) engines that our 8Gs use. Yes, the Galant is not a sports car, but it can be made to be more "sporty." Fortunately, the Galant shares most of the same engine and suspension mechanics as the 3G Eclipse (2000-2005) so their growing aftermaket will also apply to our Galants.
First, lets look at the obvious first choice of getting the Galant to go - forced induction. Basically the idea of forced induction is to push more air into the engine than a standard, normally aspirated engine regularly breaths in. The most popular methods are via supercharger or turbo.

Both the turbo and supercharger are basically glorified air pumps - the difference is how the pumps are driven. Turbochargers use the engines own exhaust flow to drive a turbine that inturn drives another turbine that forces the air into the engine. A superchager, on the other hand, uses a belt drive connected to the engine to send more air. For more info on the basic operation of a turbo or supercharger check the following links:

As far as I know, there are no custom built supercharged 8G Galants. A custom supercharger was produced for the 6G72 engine, but that was for another car. Currently, there is only one supercharger kit available, and that is from Ripp Mods, Inc. RPW out of Australia is currently developing a supercharger and hopefully it will be out by the end of this year. Tearstone Performance Solutions sells a modified version of the V6 Ripp Supercharger:

Intake Manifold Swap (Draft)
The reason people swap out the intake manifold (plenium) is to provide more airflow into the engine, as well as getting the air to each cylinder more evenly through equal length runners. If you notice the stock V6 plenium is squished. Compared to the Eclipse GTS and Diamante pleniums, all the runners are the same length. Both of these parts are almost direct bolt-ons to our engine, with a few modifications needed here and there to fit correctly.

A torque converter is for automatic transmissions only, and allow the car to launch at higher RPMS, for faster launches.

<span style='font-size:25pt;line-height:100%'>Important Tools</span>
Gauges
EGT - an Exhaust Gas Temperature gauge monitors the temperature of your exhaust usually at the exhaust manifold. If the temperature is too hot, then you can have serious problems.
Boost - measures the amount of "boost" or air pressure being fed to the engine.
Fuel Pressure
Air/Fuel Ratio - ideally you would want to get a wideband sensor, such as a Zeitronix or AEM UEGO, rather than the cheaper narrow band sensors which give you little information and is more "bling" than anything.
Datalogging Tools
Data logging tools are important as they let you know what is going on with your engine. Some of the things that are monitored include throttle position, long and short term fuel trims, intake air temperature, etc. These tools interrface with the car via the OBD connector located under the steering-wheel and just above the accelerator pedal, and then connect to a computer (dedicated, laptop, or PDA).
