    overheating

    hi guys,

    i have a 7th gen galant with the 6A12 V6 engine & auto tranny.

lately i notice the temperature gauge needle going past the halfway mark before the radiator fans start & cool it down. this only happens with the air-cond turned off & the car stationary. with the air-cond on, the gauge always stays slightly below half becoz i suppose the fans run sooner to maintain the cabin temperature.

any idea as to whats wrong with my car and how to solve this ?

    thanks .

Have you done a flush recently (last year at least). If not, stat by doing a flush, if you do not have a place go to like jiffy lube (because they use the machine and that will basically suck all the crap from the radiator and put new recycled antifreeze) and after this (you might not like it) dump this colant and flush with distilled water and then fill with new coolant mix.

    Also, check the thermostat.

i removed the thermostat just to check if it was the cause.
but the problem remains the same . the radiator fan only runs when the temp gauge goes way past half.

i suspect there's something wrong with the fan control circuitry .

    need to trouble-shoot further.

will post updates soon. thanks !

isolated the problem to the temperature sensor which drives the temperature gauge on the instrument panel. it was overreading.

replaced it & now indication is back to normal .
    thanks guys
