    Is this even possible?!

i posted this a while back but it was never answered
what i think is wrong with my car is that somehow the wiring got mixed up and everytime i step on the brakes, its like im turning on the parking lights
the gauge lights up, the fog lights i have tapped to the parking lights light up (when i have the switch on, of course), and if the door is open and i step on the brake, the warning sound comes on, as if i left the parking lights on...
is it possible that somehow the wiring i did with my fog lights fucked this up? and how can i fix it?

I personally would check the relays and see if any of the wiring in the trunk area and maybe even the motor bay is damaged. If anything else fails (since I am not a electrical guru)...try to PM Manybrews or JIP.

yea i tried checking the relays and it would be a lot easier if i knew which relay was for which part of the car...
2000GTZ if you could find out what went wrong with your friends passat that would be really helpful
    thanks

first of all, think of some possible times the wires could have gotten fucked up. the installation of your fog lights, did u have an accident in your car possibly?

but yea, how is the fog lights tapped to your turn signals? is it just a signal wire that tapped to your fogs or is it the power source thats hooked up to your turn signals?

i hooked it up to my parking lights not my turn signals

Sounds like you crossed your brake light signal wire with the parking light wire. Get a mulimeter and use the continuity tester to trace out the lines and see if they are linked up.

i understood like seven of the words u said
can u elaborate... i assume i'll have to go buy a mulimeter but i really would prefer not to
are there likely places the two lines would get crossed?
and wen i find them is it jus a matter of untagglin them... how would i "uncross" the crossed wires
    thanks in advance

Actually first you have to tell me exactly where you wired your fog lights into.

See the problem is the brake lights and hazard lights are two completely different systems. From the schematics the only way I can see your fog/hazards turning on when you hit the brake pedle is if you wired the positive (turn on) line for the fog lights to your brake switch. The switch flicks on your rear lights when you move the brake pedle.

i tapped the parking lights in the engine bay, by the battery
i jus stripped the wire and connected the fog light wire to it
(i painted my corners so my parking lights dont come on anyway)
i dont see how that could some how cross the brake wire but it obviously did
i hope that clears it up some...

This is an odd one indeed. I have no clue dude. These kinda stupid shorts are hard to find and can take hours of tracing wires and what not. Just start by disconecting the fog light wires, but I doubt that will change anything, however thats part of the steps in solving problems remove ur last mod, and work from there..

I thought that was really stupid and just how could someone do that. Well i was at my friends house sunday morning and we were talking about cars standing next to ours, and my friend starts dissing my friends car about how his angel eyes, the halos wont light up unless you put the turn signal on. BUt than he started saying how they have a older sentra se-r and when you push the brakes the parking lights come on and the dash lights come on but they dont work when you put the headlights so you drive without a dash light this and that. I can't believe this happens.

yea i unhooked my fog lights
    took out my radio
changed all the fuses and relays that has anything to do with the parking lights and shit like that
    none of it has worked
i havent done that much to my car so im really stumped

2000GTZ said his friend had the same thing happen to him so that would definatley help

but yea i agree, this is stupid

    stupid but funny problem.

I cant find any link between the two in the schematics. You have to have a short somewhere, probably in fusebox wiring or a relay gone insane.

Heres a question.. when you turn the hazard lights on, do the brake lights come on with them? If not them I am completely lost...

    o my god ur rite
i didnt even realize that wen i turn on my lights, my brake light comes on with it
im suprised i havent gotten pulled over yet
before i was just kinda annoyed by this but now im worried i mite get stopped by the police
or that i mite get into an accident cuz it looks like i jus have my foot on the brake the whole time

Jip, so what does that mean that my brake light come on with the parking light? is there a way i can fix this?

just means there is a short somewhere. Like i said major bitch to find sometimes. You just have to sit ther with the schematics and a multimeter and start checking the wires on the lighting system and see where they cross.

I think it may be more likely that its a bad relay. Or a short in the fuse or relay box.

aite after pulling out a bunch of relays and switchin them around i am completely lost
which relay corresponds to which part of the car? is it the realy that says "LAMP" or the one that says "TAIL" cuz those r the only two that seems to have anything to do with the brake ligths or the hazard lights

o and wut r the symptoms of a bad relay? will the entire component just not work or will it jus act weird?

i really hope its a bad relay cuz i really dont wana go out and buy a multimeter and learn to use it

It could just not work at all, or it could act wierd. Sometimes the contacts stick or flicker back and forth making things flash..etc..

But dont go out buying relays and randomly replacing things if your not sure that its even the cause of the problem, or ull end up wasting more cash in the end anyway...
