i know there's this big thing right now and trying to get them to be illegal in california, but so many cars have them. i've never heard of anyone get pulled over for HIDs, but i've seen people get pulled over for super blue hyperwhites. those are gay anyway

ya same here, like the only time I seen or heard of people for getting pulled over was for the blue colored tint and purpley color lights, but I've never heard of anyone getting pulled over just for the HIDs themselves.

Anyways.. I'm still looking and searching for my kit, I'm thinking of going with the Hella ones... Does anybody know which ones are the best kits?!

so far I got a quote from a shop near me for $500 for the Hella's, is that a reasonable price to get it for or could I get it cheaper somewhere else...

Also I got a set of JDM heads and was wondering if it is wise to HID both the Hi's and the Low's, considering I won't be using the Hi's too often. and I can put the extra cash into getting something else, and just get some xenon bulbs for the Hi beams.

you don't need to go HID on the lows and hi's on the JDM's (although i did); HID low beams should b just fine. the bulb sizes are H7 low and H1 hi, btw. here's a pic of my heads... HID hi beam is overkill (and pretty much illegal) but i figured, if i'm going to b an ass, i might as well really b an ass.

    H7 HID low beams

H7 HID low beams + HID H1 hi beams

note: the corner and fogs are the same bulbs in both pics but the sheer brightness of the high beams threw the color balances off in the second pic. w/ both HID kits on at the same time (four bulbs and four ballasts) it looks like a helicopter searchlight on the street.

yeah, right now my low beams are aimed very low as not to blind anyone but if i need to, or someone pisses me off i can pretty much make them see spots for a few minutes (the high beams are unshielded HID and are aimed high). w/ HID low beams you won't really need high beams unless you are driving in a really remote area w/ no lights at all around. i only really use my highs when i'm alone on the freeway late at night doing 80mph+

ok here's a little info that will help you.

there are 2 main measurements when talking about HID lighting: LUMENS is the brightness and KELVIN is the color temperature (hue - not actual heat). almost all OE HID lighting are 4250K (white/light blue). the reason for this is that as the color temp (K) goes up (ie. 5000K, 6000K...) the LUMENS goes down. so those really cool aftermarket kits rate at 8000K and up which look purple and pink are much dimmer than OE HID. as far as the BMW HID and AUDI HID that look purple stock, that is caused by the projector optics they are in, and the purple you see is at the beam cuttof (refraction).

so... if you don't care about color, you want to buy 4100K-6000K HID which will yield you the brightest possible headlights. the beam pattern and distance will be dictated by your headlight housing design.

for more info check w/ the guys at http://hidforum.com/forum/

naw my HID's are in JDM housings... H7/H1. my low beam is adjustable from 4250K-10,000K and my hi beam is 6000K. yeah my low beams can sweep from white to light blue to purple to pink.

me neither, but it looks like a standard HID kit. but since you're going HID, you want quality and a brand you can trust, since it's not exactly cheap or something simple like a strut bar, lot of technology involved.

After reading many posts over on the site Reelax posted, it seems all the good companies like Catz are out of business because HID is illegal. Most people over there are buying projector lenses with OEM HID kits and retrofitting them into their stock headlights. You can get everything you need to do the retrofit for under $500. Check out hidtech.com which sells Euro spec kits from Audi A6's and S4's. I'm highly thinking about doing this. For under $500 you get projectors and HID. I'm not sure how hard it will be to cut up the stock headlights and retrofit the projector lenses, but it can't be too hard. The Hella Bi-Xenon projectors have a shield in them that moves so you can still have low and high beams with one projector. The kit is only $449.99. That's probably what I'll end up getting, but not anytime too soon.
