i drive a i-4 and im barely getting 200 miles on a full tank.
back when i first got the car i was doing 300, but now im getting almost half that. all i have is a cai.
wtf? also, i NEVER drive on the highway, its all city miles. plus im constantly flooring my car. i dont maintain my speed, i floor it, then let off for a little while, then floor it agian. i just love the sound of the intake.
plus i accelerator at full speed most of the time, it makes it seem like im going fast.

but even before i started driving like a maniac i wasnt gettign that great of gas mileage. what things can make gas mileage go down?
injectors and sparks and wires an junk right?

With my car I usually drive in half city half highway, and will get about 23.7 mpg, giving me a range of about 300-310 before I get uneasy and sometimes triggers the low fuel light.

I average 26-27mpg with 330-340 mpt (miles per tank) without breaking a sweat.

I usually fill up with a 1/4 of a tank left highway and city driving and have at least 200 miles on the tank at that point
I drove to Florida a few months ago and got at least 350 - 400 miles to a full tank highway driving

I drive 90 miles round trip every day for work in the freeway. I cruise at about 75 with the ac on all the time. You'll get 400 miles per tank easy. FYI my car has over 103,000 miles on it.

    My old Galant: 270 (16 gal) (3.0L V6)
    My Accord: 425 (17 gal) (2.2l I4)
    My Blazer: 310 (31 gal) (7.4L V8)
    My Cadillac: 220 (18 gal) (6.0L V8)
    My Magna: 200 (3.6 gal) (0.75L V4)

I've got a 2000 GTZ FedSpec, with about 80,000 miles. My AC is dead, so I havent used it lately at all...but I average 315 before my gas light comes on, this usually means I have used 14 to 14.5 gallons of fuel. This is usually fast city driving of an average speed of 45-55mph with 5-6 stops each trip,in 15 mile trips. So, I'm basically getting 22-23 miles per galon. So, if I was to run her bone dry I guess I could get about 380 miles. The furthest I have gone was 350 and I put about 15.5 gallons in at the fill up. On the highway, I dont know...I think I averaged 25mpg last time I drove 500 miles to Kansas, this was with the AC working though.

Poor gas mileage can definately be a result of bad brakes that are clutching too tight to the rotors (drums), or tires that are out of balance and a suspension system that is out of alignment. But if you floor it at every corner and hit 5500rpm at every shift point, you are wasting alot of fuel...but having fun. At least gas is cheaper now....

Also, adding Synpower engine treatment every 9,000-10,000 miles seems to make my car run a little better than it usually does. I then use a Synpower injector cleaner every 3000 miles.

I bet I'll get even better mileage when I finally get new plugs and wires (scheduled for sometime next month, Magnacore and NGK iridiums).

I dunno if an I4 can get 400 miles, but they are rated for a mile per gallon better than the v6. So, based on factory specs the most an I4 can get is 27 mpg...so using 16 gal of fuel, you could go 432 miles. 400 Miles is only averaging 25mpg, which is entirely possible IMO.

A CAI or any aftermarket intake will increase air flow, and increase fuel used if you are at WOT alot. I noticed that when I first bought the GTZ I got 330 miles per tank. Then I got a K&N filter, immediately I was getting 300 miles per tank...this was with AC. So, take that into concideration as well.

I'm gonna hand this over to someone else to discuss, but that is my 2cents and then some!

Dont go WOT all the time....clean your fuel system....spark plugs....18 by 3 inch wide wheels lol ....shift into neutral when going down hill....i dunno...I just did my calculations for the last tank. Drove 327 miles on 14.1gal, so I got just over 23 mpg on my GTZ, this is driving pretty aggressive and going WOT once and a while.

To the man in Provo, we are both at around 6500 - 7000 ft above sea level.

    I have a 7G, but oh well.

    GS 5 spd, specs below. I et around 250- 280 to a tank, I wouldn't know exact, I fill it at 250.

Thats with the high alt and a heavy, HEAVY right foot. Something about a 5 spd just makes you want more I guess....

Well, that and the roar of a very open intake on a DOHC, damn that thing can really get me excited....

Ya, I dunno...do you ever clean the fuel system with a treatment? That helps if your injectors are dirty....

Uh, are all your wheel bearings good? Brake calipers not seized.... maybe you are running rich....try to disconnect the negative battery for about an hour and then plug it back in. Drive normal after this, and dont go WOT alot...this will screw with the ECUs learning curve...if you drive like a granny, your ECU will perform like a granny I think. Oh, and dont use your AC...that will definately help!

im lowering my 400 (which is possible with highway only driving) to 310, which is what i got with my last tank of gas, this includes 66 miles of highway travel, the rest being city miles. Oh and that was off of 12 gallons of gas.
