    Bodyshop troubles

Took my Galant over to the bodyshop today to talk the the owner. I wanted to see how much he was payin for the OEM hood, bumper, grille, and driver side healights. I want him to install an aftermarket body kit onto my Galant instead of OEM parts. So he tells me that if he installs an aftermarket kit that the hood latch wont work properly and that the structural integrity of the car will be compromised. What the hell is this old fuck talkin about??? Anybody have any experiences with their kits being installed on their Galant? If so let me know. :?

I dont think so....if the stock hood is being used, nothing for the hood/latch will be changed by adding a kit. I say find another bodyshop, cause this guy is a retard.

I have never heard a problem with the hood latch, but as far as the structurual integrity, he is telling the truth, as you need to cut the front crash bar in order to make the bumper fit. He is one for two.

i would recomend just finding a body shop that actually specializes in kits.

hahahhahaha 6G72Galant, you are too funny bro, I could just picture you giving that old guy an evil look, thinking to yourself, "what the fuck is this old fart, talking about, just put my body kit on."

Forget him! Just find a reputable body shop that has put on body kits before, and that would have no problem compromising the structural integrity of the car.

ive never heard of a hood latch not working because of a body kit.. it doesnt mess with your hood latch.. where is this cat gettin his info from... i know its really easy to unbolt your hood latch to break into your engine bay.. thats about all i can think of.. cuz if you have a body kit.. odds are you wont have a grill in teh place of the stock ones... i say.. bring it some where with younger guys.. be like.. "yo bruh.. i want to put this pimp fly body kit on my car. do you know how to use a rivit gun.. cool.. well how much will you chage me.. hook me up dood..." and thats how the cookie crumbles

Well i have to tkae it over to an Allstate agent thursday morning. And he is going to do another estimate for the Insurance company. After that, ima try to figure out how i can get the Insurance company to cut me a check so i can order a kit off Ebay or something. :? But that old fuck was really pissin me off. I had to correct his ass 5 times bcuz he kept referring to the 99-01 Bumper as the 05 Bumper. He's like "Im tellin u that the 2005 Galant bumper isnt going to fit on the 03 Galant!" And im like...."NO SHIT SHERLOCK!!! I want the 99-01 bumper" And he says "yeh but its going to compromise the sturctural integrity of the car, and the hood wont be functional!"

dude I am going through the same thing right now
brought my car to the shop
needed hood, bumper, headlights, radiator support, radiator and ac condensor
I picked up JDM headlights and a body kit
and they are doing it for me
as far as the latch thats not an issue
as far as the structural integrity or the car its cause the oem crash bar has to be modified or removed so the bumper will fit properly
unless you get the kit that fits the USDM galants, I have heard now from 2 people that those front bumpers just slap right on

The guy is tryin to convince me to just get the OEM 03 bumper and that he will leave off the front license plate becuz it looks much cooler. I almost shit my pants laughin on the way home after he said that. His words were "i did some repair work awhile ago on some young hot ladys car. She had the same Galant just like you. Except when i installed her front bumper, i left the front license plates off. I think it looks much cooler like that."

I would go to a different shop...its just that my Insurance is under my grandparents policy. And my grandparents know the guy. So thats where they sent me. I might just stick with OEM parts bcuz this shit is beginnin to be a major pain in my ass.

okay well heres what happened today at the shop
they immediately called me and said NO we cant do the bumper
I came down and looked around a little bit
and the kid working on my car knows where I am coming from
    and we agreed on this
they will install the jdm headlights, and the side skirts and the rear bumper
the kid working on my car works at another shop
and they will be putting on a black bumper courtesy of Goosey for the car to go from the one shop to the other
at the other shop the kid will install the front bumper
and I am sure the sideskirts also as they will give the shop some trouble too I am sure
and thats the end of that
they are worried about the structural integrity of the car

well wether ur grandparants know him or not he is still working for you. Screw that guy you tell him what to do not vice versa. Trust me man if you want the kit just tell him look man i want the kit put on. Thanks.

I cant stand when you try and be a nice guy and listen to the assholes and then they tell you what they want to put on your car.

Is the money from the insurance company in your hands? Or does the insurance company cut him a check?

If you have control buy all the parts you want and tell him put the shit on. If he wants to get paid hell do it

The reason a lot of shops don't want or won't do the JDM bumpers or body kits/hoods all that stuff is because they don't want to modify anything from the manufacturer. They just want to swap stock parts or work on metal. It is an insurance liability to them if anything were to happen because of the modifications. Not that I agree with them, but thats what they're thinkin. Some are just scared to do it.

I had to do a little searching to find the place that did my kit and hood. A lot harder than you'd think. They had to adjust the latch, or move the latch on the hood, but it wasn't a big deal to them. Dealership shops don't do any type of custom body work either.

Good luck with gettin your shit straightened out, it'll be worth it when its all done. If the shop refuses to do the work, you can contact your insurance company and tell them you want someone else to do the work. Just have them cancel the check and re-issue to another shop.

Yeh i been thinkin about it alot. I think if i choose a different bumper...i might just go with the 99-01 style front bumper. And after that, maybe do some custom FG work and alter the appearance of it. My main goal is that i want my Galant to be different. No exaggeration, i see at least 5 Galants every 10 miles i drive. And im sick of mine lookin stock just like everybody else. And since i want my Galant to be different....i might just go this way. Ima try to get a job at a local body shop, and maybe ill get a shitload of freebies and learn how to FG cars myself. Well at least ill be able to wax all of my car again.....
