$400 dollars for the eclipse brake system for my 7g

Guys $400 dollars is what the junkyard is charging me to buy the 4 disk brake system off a GS or RS eclipse.

    What do you guys think?

Forget it. They are just single piston brakes, same thing you have on the car right now. Check GST or GSX calipers, they are 2 piston setup. Not sure if they will work on a 7g though. You would have to convert to 5-lug. Because the rotors are larger in size.

Front 2g GST or GSX calpiers fit on our stock brakes. Just have to swap them, front left goes on the right, front right goes on the left.
    7g for life!

hmm when i crossed referenced the front calipers at Advanced, i crossed with a 97 gst. they claimed the calipers were the same, this is the first i've heard about the front calipers being different.

Guess i'll chack with the guy at the dealer tomorrow, when i call them.

what do you mean seth, i know that the gs rear disk brake works with our master cylinder but if i change to the gsx or gst brakes those are 2 piston and to my understanding my master wont work.

blue ice what did you put in your car the gs brakes or the gst brake system, im lost in a way, which is better to swap gs or gst system.

I plan on doing the whole convertion to 5 lug and all wheel disk

The rears are single piston...because they only provide 20% of braking power (maybe a little more than that). The fronts are dual piston, and like Seth said, they will work. You just have to flip the sides (right goes on the left side, and left on the right side). Also make sure you get the wheels that can clear the calipers...if you are low on cash, 17" GSX wheels go for pretty cheap, I almost purchased a set off ebay for like 300 bucks shipped w/ tires.

As for the master cylinder...just call the dealership and get the part # for GSX/GST master cylinder, and compare it to the # for 7g galant master cylinder, if they match up...you're good to go.

Also, this might be good time to check the wheel bearings to make sure they work fine, after all the car is most likely pretty old and if they are worn, good time to replace them.

so what about the caliper mounting plates for GST(X). Are they different for front or can you use the galant mounting plates.

so let me get this str8 the rear disk brakes dont matter they are all single piston while the front ones are the ones that are dual piston for the gst and gsx models, so basically all i will need for the rear are the calipers and the mounting braket, for the front after u answer the question for blue ice i will either need the mounting braked or not also the caliper and if i am lucky i will not need to change the master.

I was planning on buying the whole hub with the bearing from autozone.
the rear are $69 and the front are $96.

Ok i talked to the mitsu parts manager. He's been helping me with getting parts for my swap and cross referencing the galant parts and GST parts.

2 piston front calipers are only on GSX (he said)
    GST's had one piston

2 piston Calipers have a different size mount, so that will need to be changed.

I didn't ask him about the master cylinder

I asked him this question. " In switching from rear drum to disk, will i need to change any of the brake lines?" He checked the parts and said no, they both have the same part number they should hook right up. I needed to clarify that for myself.

If anyone was to go back to the other post where i listed parts and prices, everything i did was for GST not GSX.

Joal, i say that's the best way to go for the hub's, you'll feel really good when you do the swap.

    * Warning * You'll probably have to take the knuckle off and have the hub pressed out, but to do this you'll have to get the ABS sensor off. It's held on by little screw that is on the bottom inside of the knuckle. IYou'll be able to get the screw out, but the sensor may be seized in with rust. I didn't get either side off without breaking this part. When i asked the dealer how much to get a new one, he said $200+ dollars, i was like screw it!!

thanks blue ice i will try not to break it off

I guess i will stay with the GS-T brake system, its less of a hassle and i will still brake better than the stock galant system anyway.

The GS-X system looks interesting but i guess i dont want to go through all the hassle of changing the front mounting braket and whatever else needs to be changed

Joal the front brakes we have on our galants, and the front brakes on the 2g eclipse gst are the same. all you need to buy is the rear calipers and mounts, the rear drum and disk assembly, and the rear mounting plate as far as the brakes are concerned.

If you want to go 5 lug, then you will need all four hub assemblies.

    BTW..................

That's strange...why would mitsubishi put singl piston front brakes on one car pushing 200HP and not on the other. When I had the exlipse (1g) which came with single piston, the aftermarket option were dual piston from either GSX or GST 1994 and above. Check with DSM tuners and DSM Talk people, they will know alot more than some people working for mitsubishi. [they could not tell me why my dip-stick kept on shooting out under high boost...they just told me not to run high boost...I said f*ck that , and zip tied that sucker to the fan ]

Also not every single galant has ABS brakes, my ES did not have them.

well now that everythign is back together, the only problem with the the aBS sensors being gone, is that the anti lock light stays on. I probably wont have the brakes do that weird thing when you start to slide on ice.

oye blue ice when u going to post the pics to see how your brake system looks, damn man u dont know how hype i am about putting this system on.

i have to find a place to host the pics. i took a lot of pics too. If you want i can email you some. Where the front took about 3 weeks to do, the rear took about 3 hours. I'll look into sony image station. I'll try to find the time on Sunday to put everything up.

If you want to get started i just followed, what the other guys posted. Actually, i learned a lot from changing the front first. And although Chiltons isn't the greatest source, there is some valuable info there.

Side note, man my brakes are so smooth now. I'm using Bendix brake pads, and Powerstop cross drilled rotors. I also fixed the suspension, with GroundControls, and AGX's

the GSX carries a bit more wieght due to the all wheel drive systems.
