How to Install Aftermarket foglights in your 8G

k.....I finally bout my Angel Eye Fogz and Installed them today. I am using the Hella Optilux 2500 Angel Eyes. So this tutorial is for the hellas. This Tutorial is for a 02-03 G. But I gues it can work on the 99-01's as well.

    Tools needed:
    Screwdriver
    Pliers
    Electric Drill
Pre-Drill Bit (dont know the size...small (as small as the screw lol)
    Sheet Metal Screws
    1/2 inch washers
    22-18 guage wire tap-ins
    Razor blade

First thing you do is take out the 2 screws on the side plates next to the foglights on each side. Then remove those side plates. Now you will have access to the foglight housing. Remove the four bolts that hold the housing to the car. Next thing I did was take the OEM fog light out of its housing. You will have to remove a screw that is screwed into the fog light itself. Also you will have to unlock that lever thing and take that off of the housing.

Ok so you've got that done! Now here comes the tricky part. Mounting the new foglights into the orignal housing.

First thing i did was put the bracket that came with the Hella Optilux onto the foglight. I had the bracket pushed all the way down (since it can move up and down). Tighten the screws on the bracket to make it tight enough where it wont be easy to move. If you keep them loose enough you can angle them yourselves. With that done... I Put the fog and its brack flush up againt the inside of the housing.

You might need another person here helping you since i had my dad help me out.

Make sure you are clearing the existing holes on the bracket!

Figure out where you think is a good location in the housing. Next hold the bracket the plastic housing in place with needle nose plier(hold tight). Take you drill and you are going to create 2 new pre-drilled holes. Go Through the plastic and through the metal. It will take a little while to finally break through. That metal is pretty tough. Create ONE hole first.

Here is a pic of the first hole...

Next, place you bracket back in the housing and line up the holes and put you screw and washer tight the the housing.

    [/img]

Now that you have your first screw secured you might feel it is kinda flimsy....but you def need another screw in there. So again hold the bracket to the housing with the pliers and predrill another hole and follow the same precedure. Oh and make sure you are clearing the existing holes on the bracket

Here is a pic with both of them on:

Now the fog light is fastened really tight!!.

Now do the same thing to the other side. Its not to hard it just takes some patience. If you rush it will come out messed up!.

Now the easy PART!!! The Wiring

    It is very simple....

Take a razor and cut the plastic loom on the stock fog wiring and with you wire taps tap the Red wire from the stock fog wiring to the Whiite wire of your After Market Fogs. Then Black to Black. Now for the yellow wire run it all the way up to the turn signal and cut the plastic loom off of the wires ( make sure you dont CUT THE WIRES) and you will see a green wire with a red stripe and tap the yellow into that green/red stripe wire. Do that for both sides and you are done..
Oh and dont forget to get Zip ties or something to tie up the extra wire to the car so its not dangling...

    here are some more pics.....

Night Shots! ( need to buy bulbs that will mathc my HID looks kinda funny (Blue HIDs/ yellow fogs lol)

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks for the tutorial. I will be buying these soon. How do the 2500s work though? Halos with parking lamps, and full light with headlamps? Is that a true H.I.D. kit? I have a 8000k kit coming this week. I have the silverstars in the (cleared) corners, blue when off, amber when lit, and hyper yellow bulbs in my (stock) foglights.

That was a very great tutorial. But since you wired it through the existing fog light switch, can you turn the foglights on without turning your headlights on? Like can you ride with just the fog lights on, when its not hooked through the battery?

whoa, hahaha, look at that, maybe someone heard me, yay!!

so now that we actually have a spot for it, i think a mod needs to move it.

...so, look for the foglight rewire tutorial by djscript. It will allow you to use the factory switch and dash indicator to turn on your fogs anytime. I think he's also selling the units prebuilt for $50. Seek and ye shall find.

USPS brought these in the mail today. Got a good deal on them (brand new) on eBay. Going to install these tomorrow on my 01 Galant GTZ. Hopefully it will go easy following this.

I had a few question first though.

I am running a 8000K Sniper HID kit. What color bulb (and size) would work best with these to match?

And, how does the angel eye work? Is it always on? Or is it only on when just the parking lamp is on, and off when the headlights are?

    Thanks.

as far as when the angel eyes are on
if you install them as described in this tutorial they will go on when the parking lights are turned on and will stay on with the highbeams and lowbeams of the headlights
eventhough the foglights will shut off when the highbeams are turned on.
you can also wire the angeleyes to their own switch and be able to turn them on whenever you want

the set on my car I have hooked up just as described in the tutorial
on with the parking lights for the angel eyes and the fog lights turn on when you turn on the stock foglight switch..

what kind of lights are those??

    They're Hella 2500 Optilux.

I don't have hi-beams so hopefully this will still work. No hi-beams because I only have a HID Low beam kit.

Okay. Took me about 8 hours to get these on my 01 GTZ yesterday. The mod for the 99-01s is COMPLETELY different. It involves shaving/cutting some of the housing.

I'm running into problems though. The passenger side works great. Angel eye with parking light, driving lamps, and it reverts back to angel eye if I turn the fogs on, then off. However, the other side is the problem. Sometimes only half the halo lights up. When I turn on the fogs, it sometimes shuts off, and comes back half assed again. Then sometimes it works fine. What could cause this? The wiring is a bitch, we had to give up. It's confusing.

Also, I'm worried since I tapped into the parking lamps. Is this bad. Isn't it a bitch to revert back to complete stock, new wiring harness and everything? I just don't feel good enough about the wiring I did. It works alright, but since I spliced into wires it got messy and looks awful. Is this going to hurt me in the long run? Or anyone in NC willing to take a look at it

    hmmmm
I have aftermarket fog lights on my 01 and I didnt have to shave anything
as far as the tapping in, I dont think you need new harness if you revert back to stock
at the moment my halos arent working
well 1 died and I am not going to drive around with just one on
so I just disconnected the wire from the halo to the parking lights and I just use the foglights with no problems
and as soon as I get a new set of foglights with the angel eyes I am going to just tap right back in
