Caliper Mount?

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum, but I've been a longtime reader. My question for you guys is this:

I'm replacing my rear rotors on an 8g '01 V6 ES. I have successfully removed the calipers, but the caliper housing (or caliper mount, as someone here put it) is extremely difficult to get off. I searched this forum and read that they may be "heat sealed" to the housing, so does anyone have any suggestions for removing them? I've tried a good dose of Liquid Wrench....even let it soak overnight, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I guess I'm just gonna have to start lifting some weights or something! But if anyone has any quicker suggestions let me know!

I think you are referring to the 2 larger bolts on the back of the caliper that are bolted to the knuckle (of the hub...) These can be torqued pretty darn hard. What I have done in the past is placed a wrench on the bolt and used a hammer or rubber mallot to hit the wrench. Be careful that you dont miss and hit the fender, but that should usually get it loose. Also, you could take a propane blow torch and heat the bolts up to get them loose, this works very good actually, but be careful not to burn yourself or melt anything!!!!

Thanks for the advice! I'm gonna go ahead and try the hammer thing a few more times and see if I can get them loosened up...if that doesn't work i'll have to dig up the old propane torch and try that out! Thanks again...I'll keep you updated!

Have you tried a long pipe slipped over the end of the wrench for extra leverage?
