You're not going to get the best one for less than $225. You should look into Cold Air Intakes. And since you don't specify what Galant you have (I4 or V6) I can't really go into which particular type or brand you should buy.

Considering you're on a budget and don't really want the best but something that is alright, go on to ebay and search for Eclipse Intake or better yet, click here. If you wanted the best, money would be no object.

There are many things that would describe the word BEST. For example, would a cheap, under $80 cold air intake that is CARB approved be considered best when an Injen CAI Race Divison, priced anywhere from $200 (Group Buys, may not contain the heat shield) to $250, that isn't CARB approved, be better? It depends. It may be better because it's CARB approved and you'll save over $100+ dollars but may not hold up in the long run when compared to the quality parts of the Injen.

Me personally, I went with the $80 CAI off ebay. Works great for me. Unless someone proves me wrong with some DYNO information, I'm willing to bet all cold air intakes (AEM, INJEN, CP, Dreamspeed, OBX, etc etc) produce the same results. I mean even if there was a 2 hp difference, would that actually be felt? Especially if the driver of the Galant with a 2hp gain weighed 250lbs+ and the guy with the 2hp less weighed 160lbs?

Only you can decide what would be best for what you have planned for your Galant. There are many brands available for the 8G Galant and they are described here in this forum.

*CARB Approved - California Air Resources Board. With a CARB sticker, you'll be exempt from removing the item from the car during your smog inspection. The technician will see the sticker and go OKAY, check! Also, if pulled over by cops and they inspect under your hood, you won't get gigged for having something 'illegal'.
