    Ripp Mods Header

why did ripp mods make a header and look over making an cat back exhaust. why did EVERYONE look over making a cat-back exhaust for a galant. im to the point where i just want to get a EVO from GReddy for a eclipse adn stretch it to make it work. but my question is, is the ripp mods header street legal?

umm... the demand is not there for most companies to make a galant specific cat back system. but catbacks are EASY to fabricate for our cars and most good muffler shops can do it. but if you want a name brand catback, stretching existing eclipse catbacks is not hard to do and many members have done this. just because it's not bolt on does not mean it is inferior. DYNOMAX made one that pretty much bolts onto our cars tho (i think it was originally made for the stratus), if you want a premade one that you don't have to add extra pipe to.

the headers aren't CARB legal. so if you live in a state that has the CARB restrictions or mirrors it, you're not gonna pass with them on.

now if your state is less strict you are gonna have to look into the law books to see what will and will not pass in your state. the ripp i4 header does come with a cat so it is a lil bit more emissions friendly.

MEGAN racing makes a catback for ours cars. Its not the best brand in the world but its at least something.

no it will not rust out.. they're not well known yet as they just started out recently, I've heard many good things from them.. from what i believe they have stuff for EVO's (someone help me out here..) they also do alot of suspension setups for various models.. but as far as exhaust components they're not that known as like a Greddy, 5Zigen, Apexi, etc.. but from what I hear their products are just as good...

the megan racing exhaust is stainless steel. or so they say. so that means it will not rust. so thats good.

Dynomax made a limited run of Cali-Spec 2.5 inch cat-back systems for the Stratus and the Galant (Fits V6 and i4). A few memers, including myself, got one of these. I have a fed-spec, so heavy modifications to the resinator pipe were necessary for proper fittment. I'd check with the Stratus forums or Dynomax to see if this is still available. I believe Advance Auto also sold these for a limited time. It's full Stainless Steel with a glass-pack style resonator and a nice rolled Stainless tip (which looks a little too small if you ask me) PM me if you want more info.

No, they are deep and throaty, not ricey at all. I have an exhaust leak now (pre-cat) so I have a weird sound on my V6. But I only hear it when I'm not WOT, so that's rarely ever.

thanx to all that posted. i live in texas and i kno we dont hav to be CARB legal but i dont know any other restrictions. im thinkin of just goin with the Megan Racing wit the RIPP header. that was until i heard a Mustang wit an exhaust past me wit the normal sound they make, it was at WOT then an 3 G Eclipse past me at WOT (i think they knew eachother) and it sounded almost exactly the same (it was weird) and i saw them later and found out he had a GReddy EVO so im thinkin of stretchin one of those out for my G

I have the Dynomax cat-back on my V6 and I love it. It's nice and deep and is not loud or raspy at all. My AEM CAI is louder. I got a call from RIPP the other day and the new redesigned headers have been shipped, so mine should be here any day. The new design for the V6 is supposed to eliminate alot of rasp and they are supposed to have better ground clearance. They also will use one high flow cat now instead of 2 small ones. I don't have a dyno anywhere close to me that I could find, so I'm going to use a G-Tech Pro SS to try and get some idea of how much HP I gain. I realize the G-Tech isn't 100% accurate, but it should be able to tell me how much of a gain I got, just not real WHP numbers.
