try switching the cables
For some reason it seems like the shifter cables are a lil short so i can hook em up to the shifter assembly. Has anyone else who has done the swap experienced this? I though maybe they are backwards but someone told me that they only go in one way. The cables i got are from a 98 eclipse. Tranny swap consist of 98 MT tranny, 95 galant flywheel, 95 shifter, 98 eclipse cables. Any insight will be greatful.

I bought a set of 2g cables for a 98 GST new from DSMotorsport first. They seemed too long believe it or not. Swapped to a set of used 7g cables and they fit fine.
Do you know if your cables are off a GST or GSX?
7g for life!
do you have the tranny in nuetral?
are you positive you have the shift cables seated all the way where they go through the firewal?
the only way to be sure that the cables are not the proper length(as you say too short)
is to secure the cables under the shifter first. attacth them to the shifter. then clip in the cable into the bracket under the dash.
then see how things line up under the hood. work the shift levers(on the tranny) then see if you can get them to line up w/ the cables.
you can pull on the cable's bushings themselves to extend or retract the cables. just put it in nuetral and see if that helps.
