RPW camshaft

I've had my camshaft sitting around collecting dust for more than a year now. I've been thinking about selling it or installing it. But I've finally came to a decision to get it installed and I'm very satisfied with the outcome. Over all, the car still retains smooth idle and the same gas mileage...my only gripe about the camshaft was that it was a little too big for the distributor when sliding it back in, I needed to sand down the inside walls of the distributor to get it to fit <very time consuming>. Now that I've finally got the camshaft installed and the rest of the supporting mods like: cone filter, rpw header, custom catback, and FPR. I'll be one of the few representing the all motor camp for the 7g this year, since we've got a few turbo charged 7g this past year.

Thats cool. There is a problem for the rest of us though. I talked to a guy here near Santa Monica that was a licenced distributor for RPW here in the states, and he said that RPW is a pain in the ass! HE said it is murder trying to get things shipped, they are over priced, and their customer service is non existant. In other words you are lucky as hell man! I want a cam tooo but I have to do some more research. Glad to hear it runs well...noticeable pull in the midrange?

Yeah dude, I ordered mines from Vision Imports about 2 years ago. You gotta be patient and persistant about emailing those guys at RPW, and I believe since they revised there website. You might be able to order from them direct, not sure though.

What guy are you referring to as being a RPW agent in Santa Monica? We don't have anyone there.

It is true we did have some issues with being able to service all the enquiries we were getting, but we now have improved a lot of thigns with a downloadable price list on our website, an online order form that comes direct to RPW so that we can process things faster, and now the ability for people to purchase direct from RPW.

We have set up PAYPAL and direct bank transfers so access is now a whole lot easier.

Back to the cam install - glad to hear it all worked out - the fitting of the distributor which part exactly did you have to clean up - was it the outside diameter of the camshaft that fits into the back of the head or the actual machined fittings inside the back of the cam the the distributor clicks into.

Just want to know cause if no one tells me about these things, I won't check for them and correct them at the machinign process.

you should take it to the dyno now and have them tune your cam and fpr.
might want to get a safc as well. wonder what kind of power you are making with your setup?
with those valve spring you should be able to crank out a higher redline safely. no too much though with the stock bottom end. maybe another 500

you had to grind part of the camshaft???!!??


sounds like there is no way in hell you should be installing that thing in your car!

The actual machined fittings inside the back of the cam where the distributor clicks into is what has fitment issues, just a little too large. Needed to sand down the inner walls of the distributor inorder to make the camshaft fit.

Yeah, I wanna get it tuned badly and see what kind of numbers I'm running also. But I got an A/T so I really don't expect than much gain.

Well many things have changed over the past two years and with the ability to purchase direct from RPW now we usually get our orders out within two weeks of the order being placed.

if i buy a camshaft now do i still have to sand down on my distributor?

No that is not a normal issue we have - I have not had anyone report that issue to me before but I don't know how long ago that camshaft was ordered from us.

We check our camshafts before sending them out to make sure that the fittings all fit correctly

well if i decide to keep it SOHC then ill give yall a call.. but im still debeting the DOHC swap
