what is your say on Horse Power

:?: how do you interpret Horse power. Let's say you are running stock @ 50 mph and your ram is at 2100 rpm. And then let say you set it up let's say intake exhaust and all the works would your rpm be higher or lower @ 50 will it be higher than 2100 or lower?

if you are in the same gear in both examples (4th gear for instance), the rpms at 50mph will not change from stock to modded. what i mean is that more power does not mean that rpms at a given speed, in a given gear, will change. more power just means you can get to that speed quicker. the only way you will have a lower or higher rpm in the same gear, at the same speed, is if you have a slipping transmission or you change the gearing ratios.

here's the thing with horsepower, it sustains you. what i mean is say you have 300 hp and 300 tq, and you race a care with 250hp and 350 tq, the car with the 250 hp will win in a quater mile race (depending on his/her's car weight compared to yours) because the torque is what gets you off the line quicker, and get's you up to speed quicker. the horsepower just keeps you there. as the saying goes horsepower is for bragging rights but torque is what get's you down the road.

but like Reelax said the only way your gonna get a higher or lower rpm in the same gear is to adjust the gearing ratio.

Actually, I've noticed when I have my CAI in, I run at a higher RPM at 80mph, just over 3000. With the ram air set-up I'm right at 3000....weird but it's something I noticed.
