    water in CAI problem solved.

So I had to convert to a short ram after my CAI got a "little" too wet. I drove the car and it felt so sluggish with the Short ram. I wanted the performance my CAI gave me back. It rains a lot during the spring in Illinois and well, my cars height makes it easy for water to splash onto the filter and soaking it during driving. So I made a splash guard out of cut plastic and zipties.

doesnt putting that there kind of defeat the purpose or a CAI? looks like that thing would restrict air flow

If you post stupid and incorrect information, you will get red nuggets.

that shield will prevent from splashes but still won't prevent the filter from getting submerged if the water is deep enough.

Say what? *cough*placebo*cough* Pardon me, I seem to have a sugar pill stuck in my throat. :P

But seriously. Your ram air setup performed noticeably worse than you CAI gurgling water?

I meant when it was dry. smartass! lol.

EDIT: Also, I didnt have a RAM air set-up. I had a SHORT ram that was heatsoaking like a fire in florida...

I also have the AEM Bypass valve for those instances.

I dont see why it would restrict airflow since its not completely closed... and air also goes through the foglight housing anyways.

yes you will get colder air..but on v6's.i am not sure on i4' doesnt the CAI affect throttle response?...as in slows it down a bit?

I learned a little about this. I havent really felt my car in a long time because of an intake leak but I learned that throttle response is somtimes affected by the CAI because of the longer pipe. The longer the pipe, the longer distance air has got to travel towards the engine which makes the car respond a little slower than having a short ram.

I recently bought an Injen short ram pipe from a member at Galants.org and Im actually thinking of making my own ram-air set-up. Im going to see how much of an improvement it will make with the short pipe and forced cold-air into the intake.

just stick with short ram...Ive seen a few people with CAI destroy their engines when they sucked up water. to me its not worth the risk. id keep the guard on there if you plan on stickin with the CAI. If its feelin sluggish...just put a sneeky pete 25 shot of Nitrous and problem solved lol!

I had an AEM CAI for the longest time, then in my accident in July of last year, the lower pipe got bent a little and the bypass filter split open, so I converted to short ram. Since doing that, I've noticed NO difference whatsoever in performance. I can't see how anyone can tell the difference between a CAI and short ram. There is probably only like a 1hp difference or so to the wheels.
