Supposedly the stock muffler is the only thing that is really restrictive in the 7g exhuast system. So doing the axle back is a good choice in my opinion.
I'm getting ready to put a different muffler on the Galant (when it gets back from the tranny shop) Though, the Galant has a completely different exhaust from what I'm used to ( Neons) I seem to have two resonators, one right about the middle of the car, the other right before the rear axle. The exhaust is than finished off with the ENORMOUS stock muffler. My plan is to cut off the stock exhaust right before the second resonator, and weld in piping over the axle and finish it off with Magnaflow P/N 14815.
My question is this: Will I see an increase in performance, or will the stock first resonator still be choking down the exhaust flow? I'm just trying to get the exhaust flow to match the increased intake flow, without spending too much $$$.
Staying busy is important. After all, idle hands spend time at the genitles.
